| Nilknarf has a long tradition of atheism, and I have written extensively on the subject. These writings have been contained in both the journal entries and in various essays; this page is meant to bring them together. |
| Nilknarf would also like to offer links to the best atheistic writing available on the web. Therefore, I have established an Überathiest Link of the Week that will contain anti-theist and atheist essays, cartoons and philosophy. |
| There are several different definitions of atheism, depending on where you get your definitions. Agnostic is pretty easy to define and understand...Not Knowing. Some people have divided atheism into a weak atheist and a strong atheist. a weak atheist simply doesn't believe in a god, whereas a strong atheist denies the existence of any gods. I will carry this one step further... creating the definition super-atheist (or überatheist) as one who denies the existence of gods and who believes that believing in fairy tales is both harmful and stupid.
The überatheist has two main goals:
OK, this is nice, you might say. Dangerous, yes; naive, certainly. Idealistic? But of course. Stupid? That's a close call. |
| The philosophers have never killed any priests, but the priests have tortured and killed many philosophers. |

The good things about organized religion are not really about religion at all. The "Golden Rule" is about ethics. Most of the ten commandments of the xian religion are about ethics (Thou shalt not kill, etc.). Other good things are humanistic, community help-type things... orphanages, soup kitchens... for which they expect to be remunerated in some form or fashion. When the acceptee gets out of the orphanage/soup line, they are expected to make their contribution... go to church, tithe... don't laugh, it works that way pretty often. They wouldn't do it if it didn't. People who are not reasonable in their beliefs... are not likely to be reasonable about other things. If someone believes in god, and their priest say, "god told me to tell you to kill that unbeliever over there," why, in spite of the fact that that priest taught them the golden rule and the ten commandments, that someone will kill that unbeliever. Religion is about emotion, not reason. Religion is about fear, not strength of character. Religion is about discipline, not knowledge. Religion is about death, not life. |
| The überatheist is actively opposed to all religions and superstitions, and endeavors to rid the world of logic-defying beliefs by whatever peaceful means is at hand. |
| There is evidence that the xian religion is responsible for the "Dark Ages". It is not a coincidence that the great libraries of the world were burned and the philosophers and educators slain by the church before the start of the dark ages. Logic and education are the two things that all religious people fear. |
