Usta Sing Those Sad Songs
'til You Came Along

I used to write those sad songs
Where the cowboy lost his girl
And his horse and his pick-up
And his job and his self-esteem
And he sat in a bar feelin' mean.

'Cause that was my life 'til you came along,

I used to sing my soul out
For the lost semi-lovers when they left
I cried my heart out
And wrote it all down
And I lived it with six strings
and a cheap mike
In run-down bars
And honkey-tonks
All over in these little country towns..

And I don't know if the sad rubbed off on me from the songs
Or if the songs came out of the sad
But we fed each other
And we fit each other
Me and the sad
And the end of each and every song was bad.

But I can't sing those sad songs any more
Can't write a single sad verse.
I can't sing a line
That I wrote during that time
'Cause you releived me of that curse!

You took all my hurtin' and rolled it all up
And you threw it back to me and it was a smile
You took my tears and made them into the gentle rain
That watered the garden of our love.
You took the lost days and years and gave them back to me
As the promise of the future found in your arms
You took the lonliness from my eyes
And gave me the vision of years of looking at your lovliness.
You took the pain from my heart and squeezed it with your eyes
Until it was nothing next to the joy I found in you.

You took an empty shell and filled it with love
And made me finally real.
What I was is not to regret, for what I am now is yours
And will be
Forever.
