To Karen
August 18th 1996
Our Twelfth Anniversary

Dearest Karen,
The years seem to be going faster
Accelerating
Moving too fast
But not too fast for us
To enjoy each other.

We've learned to enjoy each other
In small ways
That don't take too much time.

Little bits and pieces
Strung together
Like a beautiful tapistry
Or a fine golden chain.

The big chunks
Of each other
that we get from time to time
Are the illustrations on that tapistry
Charms on that golden chain
Links to the sometimes separateness
Of our lives.

But our love
Is never separate;
Our lives are never lived
For anything but our time together
For Our love is always there
Our love is always there

Love,
Doug
