Daily Nilknarf Haiku

there is great strength
even in greatest sorrow;
must see tomorrow.

I started off the day early again, but a little more reluctantly today... hit the snooze several times. Got just a fair sleep....

I went to Hospice House and sat with Karen for a coupla hours, then we talked to the nurse and she said that the doc wouldn't be in until 12:30... and here I was thinking that she was ready to go without any further ado....

Which was actually the case, but the nurse didn't know it.

So I decided to go home and get some other stuff done, so I took off.

The first order of business was to smoke a cigar, so I was out in the shop when someone came to the shop door and said, "Knock, knock!"

It was my niece Cathy and her husband Morty... I was expecting them, of course, but not quite so early.

Cathy's plan is to cook a months' worth of food for us, I think... both she and Morty have been cooking up a storm ever since they got here.

About noon I went back to Hospice house, and found cousin Jan and Tanna, another friend of Karen's', there.

Tanna left shortly, and Jan and I prepared for the egress... got stuff packed up, and flowers thrown away, rings found....

And we made it home about 13:45 or so, and Karen walked into the house with some help.

And she wasn't at all critical about the furniture arrangement, which surprised me a lot.

Cousin Rowena came by for a while, and then Jan left and Rowena left shortly after that.

And Karen decided that she wanted to lay down... and she's been laying down ever since then.

And I am terribly afraid that her brain is being affected... she's just not acting like... Karen. She is frequently confused by relatively simple things.

Morty is cooking up a roast beef, and it smells wonderful... I'm going to try to get Karen to the table, and hopefully she will be able to eat.

...................

21:26...
Cathy and Morti just left; they prepared a wonderful dinner for us all... but I couldn't get Karen up to eat... she just wants to sleep.

Reta called a bit ago, she won't be coming up until Monday; her granddaughter from Colorado is coming to Enid with a new baby, maybe Reta's first great grandchild? I didn't get all of the details on the phone.

And I'm gonna go give Karen her pills, and then make myself a pallate outside her door... I think that'll be better than sleeping on the couch... or maybe I'll try the couch first and see how that goes....

At any rate, I'm calling it a night after I give Karen her pills.
