dream culmination...
not the end of life, but dreams;
try not to get there.

Karen is feeling better today... no news, Karen-wise, other than that.

And I'm happy with that.

Interesting day at work... one of my co-workers broke part of her ankle last night; the equivalent of a bad sprain, the break was an avulsion of a ligamentous attachment. She came in to work, but had to leave to see the doc this afternoon... She wants to just put a liquid-gel splint on it, I'm anxious to find out what her osteologist thinks....

Anyway, why this enters into the conversation.... she was supposed to be the runner, and obviously she couldn't do that.... and I was supposed to be on the console, and she could do that... so we traded, and that worked out OK.

My first challenge today was a one-legged one-armed fellow that needed a CT angiogram.

Which meant that I needed to find a large vein on him at the antecubital or above, and put a solid 20-gauge IV in.

And I did, first stick, and he was amazed at my skill. And so was I, if the truth must be known.

As I've said many times, getting an IV in is a lot skill... and a lot luck. Both mine, and the patients'.

And, of course, this was offset by my next patient, who was an admitted IV drug user, and who'd had chemo too.

It took me three shots to get him. He had made an offer to do it himself, but he had been "clean" for quite a while, and I really didn't want to let him.

The rest of the day was pretty routine... but I really love getting IVs in people... they're expecting it to be a bad experience, and I try to give them a good one, or at least not a painful one.

About 15:00, we ran out of patients, and, as per my usual MO, I headed for the door...

Karen wasn't home when I got there, but she pulled up when I was getting out of the truck, she'd gone to pick up Lacee at school.

And the people from the O2 supply house had arrived... an oxygen generator now sits in our hallway, and Karen can go around the upstairs quite freely, they gave her a lot of tubing.

And she looked better today than she has in weeks... her hair is starting to come back, even. I'm afraid that it'll be short-term, though.

I got a good nights' sleep last night, and I hope to repeat that starting in a few minutes.
