Daily Nilknarf Haiku

look up at the stars;
look down on the fertile earth...
then look to your mind.

The sleeping? Not getting better... getting worse.

01:00 last night, it was. Got up at 05:30.

Saw the "doctor" today, my regular doc was gone for a family emergency, so I saw a stand-in, a personable lady who seemed to know what she was doing.

The main thing was that I got a script for a chest x-ray, which will be fulfilled tomorrow. I'm expecting it to be negative... but who knows. That's why we take them, after all.

The day was OK, still a tech short and a relatively light schedule. We did some really pathologically interesting angiography today, though.

Ever little once in a while I realize that we're really doing cool, cutting-edge stuff with cutting-edge equipment.

I have a tendency to look at and identify with the patient, and I do love that part of it, but Man! The stuff that we do!!!

We look at slices 0.625 mm. It is amazing, especially translated (as it usually is) to 3-D volumes.

We did a patient's carotid study today and included the head. We could see every artery and vein, tell if it was pathological or not, and do it within about thirty minutes after the exam....

We can do that right now with all non-cardiac work... in two months we'll be able to do it with hearts, too.

Man, medicine is fun!

Except for how it affects Karen, of course.

The poor woman is not doing so well with the chemo and the drugs used to combat the chemo on her body. She doesn't feel very good... and my heart hurts, 'cause most of what I want in life is for her to feel good.

But that will come... in the meantime, she suffers... and I suffer.

But tonight I will sleep... with a little help from Evan. The pills seem to do absolutely nothing anymore, dammit.

And it's time to get started....
