Daily Nilknarf Haiku

southerly winds, breeze...
sprung from the Mexican gulf
light Kansas colors.

I had arranged to come in early today so that I could see my cardiologist at 15:45, so I set the alarm an hour ahead.

When Karen came down to go to bed, she gave me a leg rub and I told her I was getting up early, and why.

She said,"hmmm... Dr Meyer?" I replied in the affirmative and she told me that had been changed to sometime in April... I'd gotten a post-card the day before.

So I went in early anyway, of course, and worked all day and got off on time and I was going to come home and start on the income tax... but I didn't.

Instead, I did what I usually do... nothing.

Well, nothing productive, anyway.

Tomorrow is a big day.

Karen gets he first CT scan since the conclusion of her treatment.

And we are hoping, of course, for the best, while knowing that the odds are against us. But hey, the odds have been against everyone who's ever won a lottery.

The problem is, of course, that you only get one ticket, and you don't have the choice to not buy in to the whole thing.

I'm thinking that this was the first round of at least a fifteen-round championship fight... and you don't win or lose rounds, you win or lose the whole fight.

And the better you do in the opening rounds, the more likely that you will still have your strength in the closing ones.

...

And just how the hell did I get off on a boxing analogy, anyway?

O'well. Whatever works.

Debbie is coming up from Wichita tomorrow, and then she and Karen and Kim and a couple that Karen used to work with are going up to the reservation to give Harrah's some money.

And Jody's playing at a new-ish bar in Holton this weekend, the Jolly Troll, I would like to get up and see him... we'll see how much energy is left on Saturday, I know that Karen's gonna be tuckered by tomorrow afternoon.

And this daylight savings time is still kicking my ass... or something else is.

Last night was yet another late one... for a slightly different reason. I got up shortly after 22:00 and I was up until, again, 01:30; for no reason at all, diarrhea. And that has persisted throughout the day, dammit, although in a milder form.

So Karen and I will go in at the same time tomorrow, me to work and her to get the scan... which I will do, of course.

And now, hopefully, some sleep.
