Daily Nilknarf Haiku

the prods of the gods
will render us immobile;
eschew religion.

I just about didn't get to work this morning; I had forgot to set my alarm last night, and I awoke at 07:22 for some reason or another.

I made it to work with time to spare, but it was too close of a thing to make me happy with myself.

Work wasn't really too busy, but it was nice and steady.

Just about the time that the schedule dropped off, the ER started up, so that worked out nicely.

And about 16:00 we were out of patients... and you know how I am about that, heh. I was outta the door shortly after.

And it was a beautiful day indeed! 80°F, nice little breeze, a few fluffy clouds. We're supposed to have another one tomorrow, too, and then some rain on Thursday; but not a high probability, at this point.

Yesterday we found out that, according to the rules in surgery, people who are over 60 and have 15 years of service can opt out of call. This policy is specific for surgery, of course, but the administration is big on consistency over the hospital regarding personnel matters.

The problem in CT is that three of us are qualified to opt out... that's half of the work force.

Of course, when I came on board in 2001, there were only three of us, so we each pulled one-third of the call

And we didn't have a second shift, or anyone there on weekends, or night techs who could do CTs.

And it was rough, yes it was.

I don't think that I could opt out of call and not feel really guilty about it, and I'm pretty sure that I won't do that.

But it is nice to think that I do have that option.

Call now is not really a problem, we very seldom get called on weeknights, and the only completely uncovered time is on Sunday mornings.

And this DST is kicking my ass, and this computer keeps reverting back to standard time for some stupid reason... I think that I might have it set to get the time every hour, and that time is -6 from GMT... maybe GMT doesn't observe out DST?

O'well... I need to get to bed and get my own clock straightened out.... March 2007 Index
