Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Electronic toys
bane of housewives everywhere
keeps the guys at home...

Another good night's sleep, all is well there finally. For now.

I got up again about 09:00, made coffee, read the paper. Karen got up around 09:30 and she's been up all day, and that's a good sign.

I've been wanting to get her a better monitor for her computer, and she's been wanting to get a printer since... well, forever.

So I checked out the ads and after deciding that well, dammit, the store that I hate the most had the best values... that would be Office Depot... I decided to go to Office Max first.

And that's where I spent most of the $$ that I spent today.

Didn't have to go to the bad store at all. It's worth a few extra dollars to go where you will be dealt with kindly and efficiently, dammit.

And I also picked up a 4-gig Toshiba Flash Drive. Lot to learn there, it's pretty cool in that you can actually load programs on it and run them in whatever computer is nearby.

And I broke down and got a Logitech QuickCam, which seems to be very good.

A long time ago, I started putting up daily pictures, but I discontinued that, it got to be too clumsy. But now... it's just pretty slick, so I shall resume that practice.

The item that was missing was external hard drives... they weren't in stock anywhere in town.

No problem-o... I ordered them on-line, cheaper than BB, and no shipping. It's not like I'm in a hurry for them, after all....

And I didn't go over to the apartment at all this weekend, but I'm gonna stop every day this next week and bring a load over.

I spent the remainder of the afternoon/evening setting up Karen's new toys, and I'm jealous of her monitor, it's bigger and better than mine... but I liked mine just fine until I set hers up.

Setting up the printer was a real pain, though... it's a combo printer/scanner/fax, but there's no phone line available in her room, or anywhere on this side of the house, come to think of it. Even without setting up the fax, it took about two hours to get it working, most of that time being occupied with the software installation. What the hell? It's a printer!

Setting up the cam took about a half-hour, and that included downloading completely new software from the website.

I'm working the late shift next week, so I'll be sleeping a little later, which will be OK. I will also have to work later, which sucks, of course.

I need to work about four hours a day....

And I love working, it's just that it takes so damned much time out of my day, and it makes me tired, too.

Karen and I took a vote and I went to KFC for a chicken dinner. I didn't feel like cooking (and, in fact, I really can't cook much) and of course Karen didn't either... it'll be a few days before she really feels like it, I think.

I don't know if I mentioned that I got an electric shaver last week, a Braun; I really like it. I was getting so that I couldn't really shave that well in the shower, I kept missing places either on my face or my head or both. And the cuts... I'm not on any blood thinners except ASA now, but I still bleed pretty easily.

And the instruction book says that you should shave before you wash your face (and in my case, your head) so I shave at night and either shower at night or in the morning... or sometimes both.

And I don't need a mirror to shave, I just do it in front of the computer while I'm reading... very convenient.

And there's still some evening left, but I'm gonna go smoke the evening cigar and play with Karen's printer a while before I go to bed..
