I did a lot of snoozebarring this morning, and I didn't get to work until right at 07:00. And work was OK, and I got to leave right at 15:30, after finishing up a drainage procedure.... And I got a surprise when I looked out of the window as I was walking by the cafeteria... it was a blizzard! This morning, NPR had said that we has a slight chance of "snow showers", heh. "snow showers" my ass... 't'was a veritable blizzard, yes it was. Visibility was less than a block, and the streets were slick as snot, and traffic was going along at 20MPH. I decided to not use my normal route, and as I drove by the street where I normally turn, there were four cars piled up in the middle of the block. Am I lucky, or what? I got home slowly but safely... I was stopped at a light, I was in the left lane, and the stopped car in front of me started sliding sideways into the right lane... just sliding sideways. She wasn't trying to go anywhere, the road was just that slick. Lucky for her, the car beside her noticed and had room to back up.... I am so happy that I have 4WD on that truck... I only need it a few days a year, but it's worth it knowing that if I have to go somewhere, I can. And speaking of slick, my brother Dan sent me this note yesterday, which I forgot to include in yesterday's post.... "We had a terrific ice storm here Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but we were sort of right on the edge of it. We lost power for six hours, but the two new fireplaces worked wonderfully. I had not, however, yet gotten the generators into working order so I was worried if the outage went on for days and days. The big thing is getting water . . . not to drink so much as for the shitters. THAT is important. Some people north of us, in heavily populated Anne Arundel county, aren’t going to get power back for another week. So, all things said, we’re considering ourselves very lucky." I'm glad that they didn't get hit any harder, being powerless is a real hardship... well, I don't know that for sure, since it hasn't really happened to me since about 1980 or so. Well, wait, I do know that for sure, but I don't have any recent first-hand experience of it. Never been in a blackout or anything like that. But I have read that it really sucks. Karen got up for a little while tonight, coupla hours maybe, then she went back to bed. I fixed her some tomato soup and that made her happy. She will continue to get better, but it'll take her a week or so at least... it's been taking longer and longer for her to get back on her feet after the chemo. And I think that I'll have a coupla burritos and wash the dishes and then go to bed myself.
cold souls just don't get it, heh.
the only thing: love.
