Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Blood-red Sun and Moon
playing an immoral game...
touching and running.

Another longish day, but a fairly relaxed one.

JD finished up with his laundry, and I did a coupla loads so that I could go back to work Monday with clean clothes...I've been slacking off on mundanities the last week or so, and had completely run out of underwear, put on the last clean pair this morning. Laundry was a necessity.

JD and I went over to Mom's a little after noon, and he figgered out what he wanted from her art stuff... which was most of it. We took a coupla pictures over to be scanned, and we got that done before we left.

One of them is an unfinished oil of a pastoral landscape with a barn... he might just finish it up for her.

She was never one to show off her art, but I had always thought that it was very good. She would never allow herself to think that she was good at anything....

So we loaded up JD's truck, having to pause in the cold for about ten minutes while the trash man did his thing at the loading area. There were also a coupla guys loading up a bedroom set that were really getting in our way.

We got it loaded up and tied down, then went home. Karen had changed the oil in the car while we were doing all of that, and she was about ready to go.

So we said our good-byes to JD and he headed off down the road.

And, a half-hour later, so were we.

It took us just a little over two hours to get to Deb and Ric's house. The sun was still shining when we got to Emporia, and the sunset was the most beautiful that I've ever seen. At one point, about half an hour after it started, Karen was startled to see it persisting. She said, "I thought the pretty was all done!" and I said, "No, she's still sitting right her beside me...."

Debbie called just as we were getting off of the turnpike, and said that diner would be ready in ten minutes, heh. It took us a half-hour, and dinner was ready when we got there... a fine spread, as usual.

And it was really good seeing her brother Chuck and his wife Judy.

And we spent the evening relaxing and talking.

A very pleasant evening, and an OK day, except for the part about JD leaving, of course.
