I didn't get up this morning until about 09:00, and it was a very nice day. Besides having beautiful weather... it's been gorgeous here for the last week... I got to traipse around with two wonderful women, Karen and Mom. And speaking of Karen... she did develope a black eye, just the inside corner of her left eye. It really doesn't look too bad, in my opinion, but she covered it up with make-up before we went out. First we picked up Mom... we were supposed to call her when we were on the way, but both of us had forgotten our cell phones... Karen ran up to the door and rang her on the intercom, and we were soon on our way. We went to the Kansas Lavender Farm, about ten miles west of Topeka. It was a nice drive on a beautiful day, and we all enjoyed it. Instead of the advertised tour, the owner just sat and talked to us and told us all about the operation and lavender and many other things, heh. The thing that impressed me, though... she said the bees wouldn't bother us. Well, they didn't bother *me*, anyway... we walked over to the show field and I noticed that there were plenty of bees... honeybees and bumblebees galore. I decided to watch from the perimeter, giving the bees a wide berth. I have been known to hurt myself escaping from bees, since I am allergic to their evil stings. There were also a number of beautiful butterflies... when I was a kid I probably could have named them off, but I'm drawing a blank tonight. Karen was right out there in the midst of them, though, literally ignoring them as she was cutting lavender. She cut two bunches, one for her and one for Mom. Then we went home and hung out for a while before we went to eat at McFarland's, then we took Mom home. As I said, a very pleasant day.
