Working on computers pretty much sucks, but I'm getting there. Or maybe not, heh. Trend Micro told me that there are numerous trojans on my system, which I have, or am in the process of, getting rid of. And the disk-check on the Hail machine disk finally finished after about 42 hours, heh. It now thinks that it's a happy disk. I'm not so sure of that myself, though. But I really would like to get my email and favorites off of it.... And I'm not really sure that I'm not writing off into the ether here... but at this point it doesn't matter. On the other hand... y'know, my non-computer-based life... yes, I do have one, and no, it's not just work. I scored big today. I mean, like ***BIG***! Yes I did! I went to Big Lots, and they had a bunch of brass fittings on a one-dollar table. And the first thing that caught my eye... a fitting for installing bannisters! With a swivel, so that it could install... staircase bannisters! But I could only find four in the brass finish, dammit. And I noticed that the guy next to me also had a coupla brackets in his hand. So I asked him, "Do you want to trade those brass ones for the antique brass?"... I had the antique brass ones in my hand, extended out to him. He shifted his load to his left arm and introduced himself and shook my hand. And he said, "Well, sure... my renters don't really care what color they are!" As I shook his hand, I said, "Unfortunately, my wife does..." and we made a trade right there. I got a coupla more things, like a bit that goes in my driver/drill to let me use sockets and some sandpaper. I then went across the parking lot to a TrueValue store, where I was sure that they would have the sandpaper that I really needed... but they didn't. I'll have to order it on-line, I guess. There's not a more likely place in Topeka, anyway. And these machines keep shutting down the TrendMicro virus-checker, I guess that I know where that leaves me, dammit. Four machines, and not a drop to drink.... This one seems to be relatively stable, though, at least right now, I'm gonna go with it. Karen, Kim and Matt went to Parsons today to put flowers (and a cigarette) on JED's grave, and flowers on Karen's parents. This practice will probably mostly die out when our generation is gone... not necessarily a bad thing, but a sad thing. I don't plan on having a grave myself... scatter my ashes, and remember me until I die, that's all. I'm pretty much an anti-anti-virus person, but there comes a time... five computers disabled from a virus, either DLed by Drew or Brian... I don't know which, and it doesn't really matter even if Karen did it. There were some notorious sites in Karen's favorites, though... redneck racing places, gaming places... renowned for such trickery.
