Daily Nilknarf Haiku
Our days counted by
the hours, minutes, seconds
our lives by the love.

For all intents and purposes....

This is not to condemn anyone, nor to show my skill (ha!) in the use of words... but I very seldom see this phrase used correctly.

"Intensive purposes"?

As opposed to non-intensive purposes?

So, how's about those purposes that are in-between... y'know, luke-warm purposes?

And while we're on the subject, how warm *is* Luke?

Most likely about the same temperature as Matthew, Mark and John, I would guess.

Pretty close to room temperature... which is probably described as being exactly as warm as the room you are in at this very instant.

Enough rhetoric, then.

I have a headache, so I'm gonna take another of Karen's Aleves.

I haven't been called at all today, and I wasn't called last night either, but I didn't get to sleep until the sun came up this morning.

O! I tried! Yes I did! I was in bed trying at midnight. And I continued stubbornly fighting the urge to get up and do something useful (like reading web sites). Sleep without chemicals for me seems to be a thing of the past.

Well, OK, we're just talking about two nights so far here, I probably shouldn't get carried away. We'll see what happens tonight.

Another night of Sysiphusian effort will surely put me over the edge, I'm sure. Yeah, not giving myself much credit for solidity, but that's what happens when the fatiguites take over the systems.

Several thoughts for projects occurred to me whilst not sleeping, and one, I think, might even be useful... I want to make a frame-saw for making dovetails that has a 90° twist in the blade, so that one could saw the pins without removing the saw... there would have to be a toothless transition, of course, and it would have to be relatively light to facilitate sawing the joint with the board held horizontally. I dimly recall reading at some time or another about a saw like this, but can't come up with anything with web searches.

One could also saw the tails with such a saw, but it would be trickier with the angle.

In fact, one could mechanize the whole thing with a foot-treadle or a motor and a tilting table with a three-height fixture, one set point for each angle, 90°, 80° and -80°. Maybe I should work on this, get a patent on it and get rich, heh.

Happy Mother's day to all of you mothers out there, and especially Mom, who made my poor life possible and, in fact, has done a great deal to make it wonderful.

And Happy Mother's day to you who have moms, and to those who only have fond memories....

And for those of you who would just rather forget your moms, I just wish you a happy day.

So, did I get everyone covered?

And if anyone is thinking about a fathers'-day gift, most woodworkers covet the Starrett machinists' combination square. Just sayin'....

17:03...
Well, Cathy and Morty are winging their way to Chicago, where they will partake of genuine Chicago Pizza... They brought Mom over abound 13:00, and they had to leave about 14:30... we had a nice visit and ate some more of Karen's dump cake. It's called that 'cause all of the ingredients are dumped in the baking pan, I think.

And I'm going to bed here shortly... still haven't got called, and there's a CT tech there now, will be until 23:00. So I'm almost sure of getting six hours of sleep, and maybe, if I'm lucky, much more than that. I think that I could stand twelve pretty easily if that happens.

I really should stay up another hour before I take my evening meds, though, dammit. At least I will have taken the last of the antibiotics.
