Interwoven facts
textured with plentiful lies
comprise our poor world....

I was wrong... I didn't get called in until about 08:30 this morning.

I did two ER patients and then came back home... there were, surprisingly, no in-patients to do.

I was called in twice more, both times for single ER patients. I left about 12:30, knowing that there were two more hours in which I would be likely to be called.

But no, I didn't have to work any more. Nice, in a way, but I didn't make much money this weekend.

I really don't mind being on call, and I really don't mind getting called in, but I'm fine with not being on call really often, y'know? It's kinda nervewracking when I *don't* get called... I have to check the phone, check my pager... I've even called in on occasion just to make sure that they weren't trying to get ahold of me.

Andy borrowed a portable HD from me about three months ago and I finally got him to bring it back... it seems that it hit the wall or the floor really hard, 'cause it's fried. Pisses me off. I'm not loaning anything to anybody any more on Karen's side of the family... I just don't get stuff back, or when I do it's broken. Yeah, it's a lesson that I should've learned a long time ago.

So far, nothing that I've loaned to Mom or JD or Tyler has ever been damaged... much, anyway. But since they're not here, it's not really a fair comparison. Well, Mom's here, of course, but she doesn't borrow tools and things.

I watched Dragonheart this afternoon on the SciFi channel... pretty amusing movie, but it made me think. How did fantasy overtake and essentially blot out "real" science fiction? I'm kinda afraid to say it, but you know me....

People in general are still afraid of science, and they probably always will be. But they can relate to majik swords and dragons and elves and fairies... and princesses and heroes and dark evil lords.

They're afraid of real science, but since science fiction and fantasy are lumped together, they think that they're science-fiction fans... but they're really fantasy fans.

To really enjoy science fiction, you have to somewhat understand science... this has always been the case.

And I'm really not one to talk... I quit reading science fiction fifteen years ago... just about exactly the time I started getting on the web. In fact, I pretty much quit reading anything paper-based at that time, and I haven't taken it up again yet... well, I do still read the paper daily.

I'm just not into fiction any more, unless someone recommends something to me, and that hasn't happened for a while. There is just too much non-fiction out there that interests me, I really don't have time for much else.

And speaking of science... it's getting close to time for an anti-religion rant, I do feel it coming on... but not tonight.
