Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Sunday 26 JUN 2005

JD was knocking on my door at 08:30 this morning, ready to go... pert near, anyway.

And I was still quite asleep... two alarms didn't awaken me.

I had a helluva time getting to sleep last night... the AC was off in the rooms when we checked in, and it was still pretty damned hot when I went to bed, I don't think that I slept until it cooled off.

So, we got right on the road, after a gas stop and a biscuit from either Hardy's or MacD's, I don't remember which....

We were soon in St Louis, and the boys got to see the arch in the daylight.

And it was hot, but I kept getting cappichinos at every stop... love that stuff, and yes, it does have caffeine and too many carbs in it.

We got to KC in plenty of time... the boys' plane didn't leave until 18:00, so we hunted for a place to eat and relax.

After a *lot* of trouble, we found an Applebees' north of KC and about 20 miles from the airport.

And we got the worst service that I've ever had at an Applebees.

Good food, of course.

The absolute worst service that I've got there, though, will never be topped.

This was before we had one in Topeka, Karen and I and JD and Tyler were in KC, and stopped in at one to eat. Never been there before, at least I hadn't.

Our waitress was nice, but somewhat frazzled, and she told us that she was having a bad day.

And evidently she was... she took our order... and walked out. It was a half-hour before we realized that something was wrong and got the manager.

We did get a free meal out of that deal, heh.

Anyway, we got to the airport in plenty of time. As we were walking up to the terminal, I toild JD and Tyler that I used to just hate taking them to the airport, because I never knew if I would see them again... the ex was giving major problems then.

JD replied that he hated going now... 'cause he never knew if he'd see me alive again.

I left them shortly after they secured their e-tickets, trying somewhat successfully to not cry. I had to sit in the car for a while before I could drive back to Topeka.
