By the time I got up today, about 10:30, all the kids and Karen were gone. And I spent most of the day piddling, went over to Mom's after getting her some groceries and some acidophilus milk... she hopes that her belly will do better with that, she's been having a helluva time lately. She's not as active 'cause of her foot, and that inactivity works on her body and her mind. I went on call at 16:00 and, surprisingly, hadn't been called by 21:00, which is when the night tech that does CTs came on. However... I did get called by said night tech at 21:30. There was an ER patient that needed a CT of his abdomen and pelvis, and also of his leg. I didn't get any details, but evidently this fellow had shown up at an outlying hospital with a stinky leg and a white count 10 times normal... like 115,000. I got to the hospital in fifteen minutes and called for the patient... but it was gonna be a while, they were putting an ET tube in him... this is never a good sign. Especially for a medical patient. Anyway, I explained how we were going to do the exam But it was painfully obvious that his organs were slowly shutting down. The nurse called for the chaplain and I figgered that I wasn't going to do anything on this patient, anyway. And since there were no other CTs, I came on home. I watched some ridiculously entertaining show tonight, Switch or Swap or something like that... guy gets killed, comes back as a woman. Funny. O'yeah... today's picture is of the indian on top of the capitol building. And it's almost midnight, and I'm really sleepy. I'm on call until 07:00, but it's not likely that Mike will need me. Eskimo: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?" Priest: "No, not if you did not know." Eskimo: "Then why did you tell me?"
the last thought, the last breath, only
a slow thought away.
to the night tech... the surgeon just wanted to know how much of the gangrenous leg he was going to have to remove or work on. And the A-P exam was just to find out what kind of organ damage he'd sustained.
