Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Fame, it is fleeting
Love, it is forever... try
to reach a balance.

I am chuffed. Yep, chuffed. Completely.

An email that I sent to damned near everybody today:

Guess who's the SETI User of the Day!

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/

Yep, that's ME! And some of you have helped me get there… thank you, thank you, thank you!

Doug

Aside from that... everything else pales.

So... get SETI@home. Run the program, it is absolutely costless to you. You can use your computer to the fullest, SETI only uses unused memory... it's very friendly.

And if you want to join the nilknarf team, let me know, and I will set you up.

Out of 5.5 million users, nilknarf.net is on the verge of being among the ten thousandth highest.

I'd really like to get under 10,000, though, and I need some help....

I need a few more people on the team....

SETI is kinda for weirdos, I'll admit.

The idea is that we can find extraterrestrial... by looking at the radio waves of the stars.

Well, maybe so. What do we have to lose, after all?

Civilizations out there (?) trying to communicate...with us, with anybody. Anybody who has developed the ability to either send and/or receive radio messages.

SETI analyzes radio waves from the stars, looking for one that makes sense. Eventually, it will find one.

And the neat part of the program... it costs you nothing, to use your unharnessed, unused computer cycles. Distributed processing....

OK, enough of that... back to my life.

Today was fun..... I was in the scan room, interacting with patients, and it was good. Wore my legs out, of course, but not completely. I got off at 15:40 or so, and came home and saw the email notification that the SETI User of the Day was me... and then I went, more or less, hog wild.

And the hits on the website? Outta sight, yes.

And that will go away soon, and the 30-a-day hits will return.

And that's OK...

I'm getting my fifteen minutes of fame, heh....
