Daily Nilknarf Haiku

At the center of
all... is music. If a soul
exists... it's music.

Listening to John Coltrane, Seraphic light. Amazing stuff, yes it is.

I went to http://mp3tunes.com tonight to check out some new stuff and found some that I really liked, decided to spend $8.88 for an album... but I couldn't complete the transaction, dammit. Of course, the site is really new, and they explain that there are problems... but they have a really great potential. Founded by the same guy that founded (and then sold) MP3.com years ago, it features little-known artists and bands.

Ah, the day... the day, it was a bitch, yes it was. We were five patients behind for most of the day. I left on time, thoroughly worn out.

I messed around here for a while, then Karen called, she and Lacee wanted to go out to eat, and at first I turned their offer down, but then I thought, refuse two of the cutest women that I know? How boorish! So I accepted, and they came by and picked me up.

We were headed originally to the Olive Garden, not one of my favorites, but one of Lacee's. But as we were making the turn, I saw a relatively new steak house, and started lobbying heavily for a steak. Luckily, I won out, and we went to the Longhorn steak house.

And the meal and service were OK, but the company was excellent, of course. I had more red meat than a guy otta have in a month, and enjoyed every bite. And hot, flavorful bread, and a sweet potato with butter and cinnamon... wonderful, wonderful.

And then there was the company!

After we finished, we dropped Lacee off at the bowling alley to meet with her dad.... she would be staying with him tonight, and then with us tomorrow....

Big, big plans for the weekend for Lacee... a valentine's party. She's throwing it, and grandma Karen is doing (some of? Most of?) the work. But Lacee is excited!

And grandpa hasn't gotten an invitation yet....

I'm sure that she thought, since I'm on call, the I would refuse to come anyway....

I told the other 07:00 tech that he could come in tomorrow at 07:00, so I get to sleep an extra hour. Plus, of course, he owes me one. Not that he'll remember, of course.... but he loves coming in early, just like me, and for the same reasons.

And Mom and I (and maybe Karen?) are going down to Enid next weekend to get things finished up down there.

So maybe he'll let me go in early next Friday....

He has a notoriously short memory, though, so I'm not counting on it.

And speaking of Mom... I haven't spoken to her today. By the time I thought to call her, it was too late probably, and I didn't want to wake her up. And in the coupla months that she was here I got so used to her being here that it seems kinda unreal that she's not here every day any more.

What I will probably do is just stop by there every day on my way home from work. I've gotta establish that routine....

And what I've gotta do now is go to bed... gotta establish *that* routine, too, dammit, it's almost 22:00 already!
