Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

So... I gave up on sleeping about 01:30. Went out to the truck and smoked part of a cigar. Came back in and I noticed one of brother Dan's books, Not Quite a Miracle, laying on the floor. Well, hell, it's been a few years since I read that, but I know the story, so it should put me to sleep, right?

Wrong.

Brother Dan (or Jon, for those of you who only know his famous name) did not win two Pulitzers with writing that puts people to sleep.

O'yeah, have I mentioned that the sound of rain on the roof had been steady since about 22:00? Not a problem if you're a masochist who likes moving stuff in the rain... stuff that shouldn't get wet, heh.

Got off my track there for a bit....

Decided to quit reading on chapter ten, that was about 04:30.

Mom got up and started moving around about 05:00. I hadn't mentioned that I was sleeping in a cold bedroom with the door shut? Well, it has a heater in there, that has clearly marked on it, "not for use in bedrooms or bathrooms" Well, the hell with that, I turned it on about 02:00. It got pretty hot pretty fast, so I opened the door, just in case I might get suffocated I would take with me the two women that I loved the most....

I think that it was shortly after 05:00 when I drifted off... and Karen woke me up around 08:00... And I forgot to mention, I had forgotten my C-PAP machine? Dummy. That wasn't the sleeping problem, though... I was just wired, and have been for the last week for some stupid reason.

Anyways... on with the story.

Nope, not on with the story, another diversion... I've been kinda watching the football game, and NE has won with an interception. I haven't really cared, but McNabb kinda rubbed me the wrong way, so I was happy with the outcome.

Anyway, on with the story.

Finished putting stuff in plastic boxes, started loading the boxes onto the truck. Nine big plastic boxes. The bed of the truck was full of H2O, at least the front third was, but I didn't worry, the boxes were plastic.

So, loading the second box in, I knock a hole in the damned think.

well, crap.

So I just held it back to the third row and continued loading.

Got that done, then I secured the load and the tarp over it.

Started loading the trailer, got everything on it, secured it, tarped it.

As I was tarping, buddy Jess came over, and I apologized to him about last night. He understood completely, just like friends are supposed to do....

And about 13:00 we were ready to go. Needed to get gas, and the tires on the trailer were low with the load. Got coffee and air and gas and we were on our way.

And I really love the little radios that I got, it made the trip much more pleasant.

And the trip, it was crappy, kinda... with the exception noted in the following paragraph. Or maybe the one after that. Hell, I don't know how many paragraphs away it is, just keep reading, we'll get there.

It did stop raining while we loaded and tarped, but shortly after we hit the Kansas border it started drizzling, and continued, along with fog, all of the way. I didn't even try doing the speed limit with the trailer and the fog and the sometimes-slick roads.

It was a long drive, yes it was, and I was right glad to have it over.

We got home and unloaded the stuff that doesn't go to Mom's apartment and started watching the super bowl, and I started typing. And here we are to right now, when I am going to bed in my waterbed and my C-PAP and I'm gonna sleep all night after Karen gives me a rub. And I'm gonna have a wonderful day tomorrow, and I hope that you do too.

O'yeah, I forgot one thing... after we unloaded the car, I pulled it out into the street and parked the truck and trailer up. Got the trailer where I wanted it and unhitched it, then I was gonna pull the truck into position to unload the plastic boxes in the bed.

But... I had neglected to remove the chains from the hitch.

So I pulled forward, got a jolt, then another jolt. The first when I hit the end of the chins, the second as the tongue of the trailer went under the truck... incidentally ruining the trailer tongue jack. Which was already ruined when I loaned it to a friend and he forgot to put it up when he took off.

OK, enough for tonight. Tomorrow will be a better day.
