Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Evening does break
not with the fierceness of the sun
but sweet errant breezes.

Yeah, I know, too many syllables... so sue me. O'Wait, I've used that line before. Add redundancy to my sins too. Again

Not a bad day, I only hit the snoozebar once. And work was OK, but I did have to go to an inservice for a coupla hours today, pretty boring stuff, but required for my annual evaluation.

So now I've got everything done for said evaluation, let's see what happens. It was due on the first, which reminds me, last Thursday was my anniversary... 34 years at the hospital. *Way* more than half my life, heh.

My "real" anniversary is the first of September, the day that I started to x-ray school, back in '64. Forty years ago. That's a long time, even when you're doing something that you love.

After I got out of x-ray school, I worked at the Sante Fe Hospital here in Topeka, waiting to get drafted, and then when I came back I went back to work there. Did that until 1970, when I moved back to St Francis.

I worked as a tech in the Army, too, after I convinced them that they didn't need me to be a helicopter medic. I had to do some serious talking to get my MOS changed, and once I got the radiologist on my side and the hospital administrator it was all downhill coastin' from there.

A couple of us oldtimers were sitting around the other day between patients, reminiscing on the days before disposable supplies. Back in the day when you had to sharpen needles and put them in test tubes with a cotton ball in the end to be sterilized. And the glass syringes were matched so that you had to do them one at a time, clean them and rinse them and let them dry and then wrap them up in paper and run them through an autoclave.

I'm *so* glad that those days are over and done with....

And this day is over and done with too.
