Daily Nilknarf Haiku

The sun pounds the dirt
The earth cracks and groans;
dandelions thrive.

Waaah, I got called in last night just as I was getting to sleep, dammit.

And then I didn't even have to do the patient, the creatinine was too high, so we couldn't inject IV contrast, which meant that... the night tech could do it.

Easy money.

15:49...
Just got a little interrupted there, had to go in to do a coupla patients. Anyway, after coming back home last night, I couldn't get to sleep until about 01:30, and I was awakened at 08:05.

The tech that is working today didn't have his sign-on set to print to the CT printers, so I went in and fixed that for him and printed up the films that surgery had to have. Yeah, they have the synapse viewing system up there, but some docs are Luddites. And, of course, they want what they want when they want it.

And then an inpatient came down that needed contrast, so I stayed and did that too.

This last time that I went in, it was for an inpatient, but the ER had a contrast exam to do too, so I got that taken care of while I was there.

And I just found out that I'm inheriting an eight-inch jointer from brother Dan! That'll be a really nice addition to my shop... if I ever get a shop. They were supposed to start *fer sure* last Monday and, you guessed it, nothing.

22:51...
Got called in one more time, did an appendix study from the ER. Kid's gonna spend the night in the hospital, I'm afraid. But he should get to somewhat enjoy the festivities tomorrow, he's young and appendectomies are minor surgery nowadays.

The radiologist came in while I was explaining the images to our night tech who's learning to do CTs, and the rad listened for a minute and handed me the order, saying, "Here, you read it, you've got it down right!" He was joking, of course....

Which reminds me, the guy who offered to send me to medical school died last week. Tom Rogers... the world is a poorer place without him.

How different my life would have been if I'd had the guts (and sense) to take him up on his offer!

Not that I'm unhappy with the path that I chose. We are daily faced with decisions that might wind up being very important to our futures, and often we don't recognize them. There isn't enough time in the world to regret all of the bad ones, is there?

I tried to take a nap earlier, but it didn't work. Just couldn't get to sleep, although I tried for about two hours. O'well, maybe I'll get some sleep tonight, heh?
