The tallest tree in We just got home about an hour ago.... I had a helluva time getting to sleep last night, it was 03:00 when I last looked at the clock. And I didn't get up until 09:00, which is about the time when I was planning on leaving. Went to McDs again, but I didn't get Mom another cinnamon roll... I wasn't being mean, she just didn't want one. I got my stuff together and hit the road about 10:15 or so, heading for Wichita. On the way up, I got an idea for a song, and had it mostly worked out by the time I got to Ric and Debbys' house. Luckily, they had gone out for brunch, and when I called Karen, I had the choice of meeting them (they were halfway done eating) or staying there. I opted for the latter, and Ric guided me to where the spare key is stored. So I had time to get the song down in my PDA, just got it finished when they got back. We visited with them for a little while, then Karen told me that Kim had called, and that they'd had a big storm last night, and there was a limb down on the deck and another one on the roof. Well, this worried me quite a bit, and I was then anxious to get on the road. But we still had to stay a while, Debby had made arrangements for Bettys' funeral, and, since they are going out of country for a while in July, we thought that we'd better go over the plans with her. Karen and I had a nice drive back to Topeka, it's always such a pleasure being with her. When we got to our house in Topeka, we were pleasantly surprised. All of the limbs had been cleaned up for us... Andy and Matt and Steve and the two grandsons had taken care of it for us. We'd lost some big limbs out of the south maple in the front, and some out of the live oak in the back, but we were pretty lucky compared to some of the people around here. And I was really happy that we'd had the horizonal limbs taken out of the tree in the back over the deck, I'm sure that they wouldn't have survived. I'm not really sure that the south maple will survive much longer, and I hate to see it go. The live oak, I'm not really that fond of it, but I think that it will survive anyway. I'm gonna try to get to bed early tonight, it's my early week next week, and then I have call over the weekend, and then the next weekend is the Neilson (Karen's) family reunion in Wichita. Betty is getting really bad, hallucinating constantly, and she didn't recognize Karen at all. She's still kinda ambulatory, but not much. Karen said that she was in a wheelchair yesterday when they visited, and she was the only resident that wasn't sleeping. Karen only went once, she didn't really want to see her again today. I need to go play some music and relax after I get this up... I miss that when I'm gone. And I've gotta get some music down for my new song.
