Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Some moisture, cool air
hot air, combining slowly
Crescendo on the plains.

Hot, humid. Excellent thunderstorm weather, tornado weather, in fact.

Warnings out to the north of us... big line of thunderstorms bore down on Topeka earlier, and split about 40 miles north of here. More forming out west, though, and headed in this direction. Maybe we'll get something a little later.

We are under a tornado watch, the first of the season, I believe. Been a slow season for big storms so far, and the most productive time is almost over.

I finally got Lacee's computer going tonight, by the simple expedient of putting an additional (smaller) hard drive in, the old one from Kim's machine.

Then I had to spend a half-hour getting the cabling right, there are eighteen different ways to hook up two drives using cable select.

But finally it was accomplished, and W2K is running happily, and Lacee has 180 Gigs to play with.

And Lacee graduated from grade school tonight. I declined to go, since I was on call and had too much to do, really, including getting her computer working.

Hot in this little room. I did get the screens to the shop, though, hard telling when they'll get done with them.

And no progress on the workshop at all. Jackasses.

Also tonight, I put SP4 on all of my W2K machines, and I recommend that everyone else do so. Microsoft.com.

Big doin's in Topeka today, both Kerry and BabyBush made appearances.

Kerry is now ahead in most of the polls today, by more than the margin. I'm happy 'bout that, but it's *way* too early to start cheering.

BabyBush's problems are piling up, and he doesn't have the smarts to admit that they're problems. Constantly lying to yourself and everyone else will do that to ya, I'm told. Surrounding yourself with toady yes-men and women doesn't add to the clarity of vision either.

Not much intellect there, just lots of greed and zealous evangelical hypocrisy.

I'm starting to be not so afraid for the future now, knowing that this particular pack of rats will be departing.

The not drinking is doing well, I had problems going to sleep last night, went to bed at 21:30 and last looked at the clock at 01:30. Too used to using alcohol as a soporific, and it will take a few weeks to get off of that.

And this Friday night I will smoke my last cigar. The hell with this one thing at a time deal, that's kinda silly anyways, a weak self-justification for smoking longer.

Thanx for being here!
