Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Divisions of pie
Fairness must succeed in fact
Weigh them carefully.

I woke up this morning to the sound of thunder, but I was pretty reluctant about it. I had enjoyed the previous two days too much to really want to go to work today.

But I did, and we were, as usual, busier that usual. However, since we are *always* busier than usual, that makes it not so much of a big thing, heh?

And today we found out that the supervisor had lied to us. Either that, or he's really being kept in the dark. Either way, I have written him off as being useless as a problem-solver, or anything else, for that matter. Yup, I'm pissed again.

So, we need to know if the department director is in on this. If he is, then there's no need to protest at all. If he isn't, there will be some sparks flying.

Uh, and I'm on the committee charged with improving morale?

Anyways. Back to Iraq.

It has been said that we can't win there, and I believe that.

So what the hell are we still doing there?

I thought that saving face was an oriental hang-up.

If we stay, we lose, and a lot of people get killed, on both sides.

If we leave, no more of our people get killed.

"Well!" some people say, "America doesn't walk away from a fight! We'll stay until we win!" and this is the same stupidity that got our asses kicked in 'Nam. Remember that one?

OK, so if we leave, we lose. If we stay, we lose.

If we stay, we are throwing good money after bad. No point to it, no sense to it.

If the people want a democracy, they will fight for it. They will fight for it and die for it and keep fighting and dying for it until they get it. That's the way every democracy has been build. Democracy cannot be imposed, it just. Don't. Work. Thataway.

So let's walk out. Yep, leave. Bring those troops home. Leave the tanks there, leave the humvees there, leave the guns and munitions there... those people have a war to fight, and they shouldn't be allowed to do it with machetes and camels, this is the 21 st goddamned century, after all!

Leave the half-built hospitals and schools. Let them build their mosques with the materials, let them fix their roads, their power lines, their voting system, their leaders. It's all theirs to deal with, not ours.

Walk away, and put the money towards building *US* some schools, so that no child should be left behind. Use the money to fix *our* medical system, to fix *our* poverty, *our* homeless, *our* fearless and stupid and greedy leadership.

If we stay, we lose.

We lose a lot.

We have already lost a lot, we're the laughing-stock of the civilized world, and much of the uncivilized part too. And they hate us. They hate us now because we've put ourselves above the rules. Geneva? That's somewhere in Scotland, right? World court? Naw, we don't need that, we behave ourselves just fine, thanx. Why no, they're not prisoners of war, they're enemy combatants, and we can do what we want to with them and to them.

They hate us because we're big, dumb bullies.

And we're following a big stupid, crooked, greedy bully and his bully gang.

And we'll never, ever admit that we're in the wrong, because, by gawd, we're AMERICAN!

And we are *that* close to being ruined.

OK, enough of that little rant.

On call tonight. No biggie. Got off late, again, no biggie.

I found a new newsreader, Gravity, and I just love it. And I have re-discovered news groups. Music, not porn. Oldies, like 30s and 40s and 50's stuff. Cool, cool stuff. Stardust. Nat King Cole. Bing.

In fact, I'm gonna go listen to some more of it right now... well, after I post this up.

Wait, dammit, a haiku! I forgot the haiku!

OK, better now.

Thanx for being here!
