Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Saturday 16:41 4/3/2004

I didn't mention last night that I'd called my old friend Jesse, and he wasn't feeling very well. I was disappointed, 'cause I'd wanted to go out with him and drink some beer and chase some women, heh. Not to be.

And I was watching Dave Letterman last night, and they were talking about daylight savings time and that you should jump ahead, so, not really thinking, I went ahead and changed my watch. A day ahead of time.

Well, yes, I have done stupider things, even in the recent past. No harm done here, except for my estimation of my intellect.

Mom woke me up about 08:30 (my watch said 09:30) and told me that Brenda, Jesse's wife, had called and that he was in the hospital, he'd gone in shortly after I had talked to him.

Mom and I had the normal McD's breakfast, and I loaded the car up, and then I took her to the grocery store and then to the new house, where the refrigerator is. We said our goodbyes and I was on the way.

Well, I stopped by Walgreens and got some razors and some cigars, the up another block to the hospital and found Jesse's room. And he looked like shit warmed over. No color and huffin' and puffin' just laying there. Well, he's had some sort of resistant fungal infection in one lung for about the last year that they've been fighting, and now it's in the other lung too. He's on IV antibiotics and antifungal agents, I just hope that they can keep him in there long enough to get that crap all killed. Jesse isn't a really compliant patient, and he's ornery as hell, and he'll probably want to leave as soon as he feels better, which will leave him once again about half-way cured. Anyways, I spent about fifteen minutes with him, then I was on my way.

I stopped in front of my old house from much younger days and took some pictures, everything seems so much smaller now. There were four girls playing in the front yard and they were really curious about what I was doing there, so I told them that I grew up in that house. They weren't impressed at all, and, curiosity satisfied, went back to playing. Today's picture is of the house at 1717 W Park in Enid.

I made pretty good time to Wichita and everyone was there when I got there. I hadn't known until last night that Chuck was bringing his lovely wife with him, I really like Judy, she's a delightful person.

Shortly after I got here, Karen and Chuck went to the home and picked up Betty. She seemed pretty good when she first got here, but that passed pretty quickly, and she wanted to go back home after about 45 minutes, so they loaded her up and took her back.

Right now, just Lacee and I are here, everyone else is out running errands and/or shopping.

We have a hotel room for tonight, I do hope that Deb got us a king-sized bed...

23:50... well, my watch says 00:50, but we've been over that already.

Watched OK State lose to the yellow backs, dammit. Close, close game. And then I watched Duke get beaten by U-Conn in a come-from-behind-in the last-two-minutes game, damned exciting, it would have been more exciting if I'd actually cared.

I didn't really care about the OSU game either, I just got a little enthusiastic from listening to Oklahoma TV and radio.

We had an excellent supper and then Lacee and Kim left early, Lacee wanted to swim in the pool at the hotel. We lasted until about 23:30 and came back to the room, and now it's time to hit the sack for me, too.

Thanx for being here!
