Brilliance is blinding Well, it started off being an OK day, anyway. And then, as these things do, it went to hell. Crummy night's sleep, of course, but I pretty much expected that, for much the same reason that the previous night's sleep was crummy, only I didn't have people interrupting my sleep, just pain. Hard to find a comfortable position to sleep in. I think that this might finally break me of sleeping on my stomach and sides, the only way to get comfortable is on my back, and psychologically, that's not comfortable either. Anyway, I called JD's cell about 14:30 to see where they were, and they were just south of OK City, they'd got a late start. About an hour later, he called... vehicle trouble. blown water pump, at least. No big deal, sez I, they're realatively cheap. The AAA towed then into town and they found a mechanic. Well, blown radiator, too. So JD called and told me that they were gonna get a motel and that the guy would have it fixed by 11:00 or so, then they'd be on their way. And then a little later he called again. Annette had floated an idea that sounded reasonable... sell the truck. They'd been thinking about that anyway. So he called the mechanic back and got him to make an offer. About $700 dollars less than what JD had expected, but the guy told him the head gaskets were probably blown too. I think that the guy got greedy, is what I think, but he kinda has JD by the short hairs. We talked back and forth a few times, and he accepted the guy's offer reluctantly. Annette is gonna drive up tonight and pick them up and bring them to Topeka tomorrow. She's such a sweet girl! And the good thing about this is... I get to see Annette too! She is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world, and I was unhappy that I couldn't go to Houston and see her, and now she's coming up to see me! I got my new motherboard today, and I'm busy installing it, kinda. I was hoping that I could just move the drive from the old machine to the new one, but whatever it is that rules over computers has a different idea, and it's not working out that way. So right now I'm using an identical drive to copy files to and hopefully that drive'll boot on the new machine. So, some good news: tonight I can take a shower, the incision should be healed enough for that. Still got the steristrips on, of course, they usually last a week or so anyway. And I've been bathing, after a fashion, but man, I hate not being able to shower! Copying one drive to another is not a fast process; it's been at least an hour, and there's only 13% done so far. The 30GIG disk was about three-fourths full, so it's got at least three more hours. I'll make use of that time by taking a shower and shaving, I will! It's really weird having this thing, this machine, planted under my skin. It's heavy, for one thing, and it seems to take up a lot of room, but mostly it's just weird. Of course, there's still a lot of edema around it, so it's not really distinct, and I can't tell if it's under the muscle or not, but I would imagine that it's not, from a logical point of view. And my whole left arm is sore, especially the shoulder joint, and I'm curious about that too, I can't think of why that would be. O'well, life is full of mysteries, heh? And twitches, I've got lots of twitches in that area too. The twitching was part of what woke me up last night, trying to get in a position where it wouldn't twitch. It was OK with my arm across my stomach, but by my side? Twitch, twitch, twitch. O'yeah, no email until I get this new machine working, at least incoming email,I'll be able to send OK, I think. I'll soon find out. OK, off to get clean!
