Damn the cold and damn the Today wasn't nearly as bad at work, we finally had a full crew there, and I was on the console. A much easier day on my legs, it was. The news of the day, of course, is that sonovabitch in the white house has decided that a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages would be the way to solidify his right-wing backers. So, for the first time in our history, he wants to take away personal liberty with an amendment to the constitution. Every other amendment has been about expanding liberty. I have not yet seen an argument against gay marriage by anyone that doesn't use gawd or the bible to support their bigoted views. Because if you use logic or any humane view of society, there is no reason to not allow gay marriage. Who gets hurt by gay marriage? Nobody. Who benefits? Society as a whole. People who are marginalized by any method are bound to be less productive, after all, and aren't we all about production? So why marginalize gays? After all, it's not like they were atheists.... Religion only occasionally reared it's ugly head in the fond days of my youth, but now the ugliness is everywhere that you look. Think of all of the money spent on beautiful churches (where the faithful go to pray, even though their jesus told them to pray in their closets) that could actually be helping our impoverished and hungry neighbors. Think of all of the money being spent on this holy religious war against the muslims, what could that money be doing to help the diseased and hungry in the world? I guess that I could go on and on, but I'll spare you, you've heard it all before here. Go read about Reality Day(http://www.alternet.org/members/story.html?StoryID=17907) and then A plea for an atheist homeland (http://www.arbiteronline.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2004/02/23/4039aff78e385).
