Daily Nilknarf Haiku

About to die from tard;
Life's just so damnably hard;
'Cept the easy part.

I was awakened at 01:00 this morning by someone pounding on my front door.

Well, I really wasn't, but Karen was, and she woke me up to tell me about it.

So I got up to see who it was.

It was a tach who works third shift, she'd been in Colorado and just got back and dropped by the hospital and found out that they couldn't get ahold of me... and I was on call.

And she was nice enough to drive over and wake me up.

The old "Phone off the hook" trick, dammit.

Every night when I'm on call the last thing that I do is check the phone on the headboard for a dial tone.

Last night I didn't.

The phone in the computer room wasn't hung up properly, and that was completely my fault, and some way or another I will pay for it, I'm sure.

So I went in and did three patients and came home and slept soundly the rest of the night.

Not.

Not sleep. Dozed a bit, but never slept.

And now I'm about to die from fatigue, I am. Not a bad way to go, I guess, better'n a heart attack, I know that for a fact.

This will definitely be an early night, no messing with computer-machines and only a little keyboard-playing.

Thanx for being here!
