Daily Nilknarf Haiku

Hair falls out, stuff droops
Major concern: quality of poops.
Golden years, my ass.

Some of you may have noticed that I didn't update yesterday; most of the world, I'm sad to say, didn't notice at all, at all.

Anyways, here's the story: I decided that, since it was late anyway and I was in a silly mood, I'd once again grace this page with a self-portrait. So I took a few exposures and DLed them on another machine and transferred them over to my main machine and tried working with PS on them. Well, PS was running really slow, and I decided that it was time for a re-boot.

Only it didn't *want* to reboot, it just wanted to say "Saving your files..." forever. Well, fine, I thought, I know how to do this, and I hit the power switch.

And waited... and waited... and waited. Nothing happened.

To make a long story short, the MB is probably fried. I'll try swapping out the chip before I do anything else with it, but I think that's probably the verdict.

So today at work I realized how to fix it, a piece of weirdness that one of my readers clued me in to about a year or so ago. You have to remove the power cord completely! Yeah, that's it!

Woe, no, that ain't it. But good try anyway.

So I took the HD out and installed it temporarily in an identical machine that I've been running RH9 on. It boots, but it won't run. Doesn't recognize the keyboard or mouse. O'well. Luckily, the network picked up on it, so I was able to get all of the files (including this one) over to my number two machine, which is running W2K. Which is the only WIN OS that I'm ever gonna run again, XP is just not right for me I don't think.

Work today: quite OK.

The father of the tech who had to go to Florida is doing better, but not out of the woods yet; I think that we were all surprised and happy that he hadn't died.

I got off on time, and put the battery charger on the truck and filled up the clutch and got it away from the curb all right, but I've 'bout made up my mind that it's on it's last legs. The clutch master cylinder that the boys and I put in last summer has blown, and I don't really feel like putting more money and time into a 20-year-old Toyota.

And I really don't feel like making a car payment again either, but what are y'gonna do?

I just barely got up this morning, and Karen wanted the car, but not as much as she wanted to stay in bed, so she spent the day carless.

E-mail: well, I will probably get a little behind, I'm gonna set up an account on the number two machine but leave all of the mail on the server for right now, 'til I can get the XP disk going. So if you don't hear from me, you'll know why, heh.

And I'm on call tonight, dammit, no rest for the wicked and damned little for me either.

Thanx for being here!
