Daily Nilknarf Haiku

If you'd been sober
You wouldn't be in this fix
Hold still, goddamned drunk.

Man, snow is really pretty at 04:00 in the morning, driving down deserted streets with the high headlights on. When you have been working for twenty hours.

I will find out how pretty it is at 08:00 when I have to go in to do an inpatient. Although they way things are going, I'll probably be there doing ER patients.

As I hinted at earlier, there's been no sleep for this boy. I did get my shower earlier, but the hospital called as I was actually *in* the shower and Karen took the message. I've actually been in several times since then, they're spacing them out so that I can't get any sleep, I just know that they're doing that intentionally, darn 'em.

I had wanted to spend some time visiting with my old night buddies, but none of that either.

OK, off to try to get some sleep. Got the alarm set for 06:30, I think that I'll change that to 08:00 and see what happens, heh.

16:34.
What happened was that I got called at 05:45, that's what happened.

And whatever happened after that is kind of a blur. I got home about 08:00, and went to bed and slept for maybe an hour, maybe two. Went in at noon, found out that the patient that I was supposed to do had a full breakfast, couldn't do him until 15:00.

Came home, did I don't know what until about 13:45; went in and did 4, 5, maybe 6 patients.

Luckily, I don't really have to think about most of these exams that I do. When I absolutely have to, I can, no problem. But I'm not really sure how that I recognize the ones that I need to think about, y'know? But I do, invariably. Damn, I hope that it stays in that invariable category.

19:22.
Pretty good football game. I watched up until the Panthers scored a TD after the two-minute warning, then I went downstairs to play some guitar. I just came back up, and Karen told me that I'd missed the excitement, two TDs and a field goal. O'well. I learned a new way to play greensleeves on the guitar.

I'm really not gonna make it too much longer, my body is giving out on me. I don't think that I'll know who won until tomorrow, but it doesn't really matter to me, I guess, or I would try to stay up.

But I was thinking... if I would have been able to learn as much as I have in the last three months on the keyboard and guitar twenty years ago, I would have been a star. O'well, water under the ol' bridge, heh.

Thanx for being here!
