Natterings, Notions

Notes

And yet another crummy night's sleep. It doesn't do any good going to bed at 20:00 if you're still awake at midnight, now, does it?

Additionally, I awoke for good at 04:30. Tried for an hour to go back to sleep, then I resignedly shut the alarm off so that it wouldn't waken Karen when it went off at 06:30.

Showered and shaved (I've been shaving in the shower, it's a whole lot easier than doing it in front of a mirror) and read the paper before going in to see the doctor for my annual physical.

I decided to do the blood tests today, thinking about the omelette that I would treat myself to once they were done.

And guess what?

Everything came back good!

For the first time ever, my triglycerides were in the normal range!

And my cholesterol was at 138, which is two points below the normal range, although my LDL and HDL were still turned around, with the HDL (the good stuff) at 32, three points below the normal range and the LDL at 72, which is in the low normal range, 62 to 185.

All of the other tests were within the normal range, nothing of note there, they always have been.

The A1C, which is a measure of how well I'm doing with the diabetes, had not come back yet when I left work at 16:30. It's the one that I'm most anxious to see, of course. I really feel that I've been doing well with my diet lately, but I would like some concrete proof... after all, I felt that way last time, and I was wrong. I desperately want to be right this time.

The doc was pretty happy with the progress that I had made, especially with the weight loss. He did express disappointment with the cigar smoking, though, which I expected. I'm kinda feeling that way myself, after all.

And today was the great American smoke-out, but it never entered my mind to participate. I'm gonna have to, once again, do it my way. Hey, sounds like a catchy song title, heh?

Anyways, work was OK, but my legs are still hurting. We're back to full staff again, but tomorrow one of the FT tech will be gone to a meeting, and according to the schedule, it's gonna be a rough day.

And then there's the weekend coming up.

I'll go on call at 20:30 and be on until Monday morning. Fortunately, Sunday night there'll be a night tech on that can do CTs, so I'll probably get to rest some before the next week starts. Maybe. I'm not gonna count on it, though.

Tomorrow and Saturday will bring about a change in the weather, rain and then snow on Saturday night and Sunday, they're predicting right now that we'll get at least a coupla inches of white stuff.

And, with the white stuff, we get drunken people that don't know how to drive in the best of weather doing really stupid things. And even sober people, come to think of it. I hope that they all stay sober and smart. And in one piece. It's so much easier to CT them if they stay in one piece.

Well, once again, I'm gonna try to get to sleep early. Just 'cause it hasn't worked the last two nights doesn't mean that it won't work tonight, right?

Thanx for being here!
