Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Well, before I actually get into today's entry, I probably should explain what happened to yesterday's entry, heh?

The cat ate it.

Well, not really.

What happened initially is that suddenly my site wouldn't let me FTP into it. It accepted my PW and then said that I didn't have permission to overwrite my files, which is a necessity for maintaining a journalling site, right?

So I wrote in and complained and the guy that wrote back said that OK he chowned my files and that everything should work OK. But it didn't. Then he wrote back again and said that the permissions were more screwed up than he thought, try it again. I did, but then it wouldn't accept my login/PW.

By this time it was getting sorta late, so Karen and I went out to the club where Jody was playing. We had a really good time, and we left about midnight, I was pretty well worn out by then. We'd danced a little, some slow ones and some fast ones, and after we danced to Johnny B Goode my legs were gone. They were on their last set anyway, so we didn't miss much. I hope. Jody is excellent on Johnny B Goode, my ambition is to be able to play that song like he does.

I came home to an email denying that my login/PW didn't work, so I wrote back and then went to bed.

I got up around 08:00, and then I thought about that nice warm bed and headed back to sleep for another three hours. Now I feel pretty well-rested after about ten hours of sleep.

And an email this morning said no, it should work now. And it's odd, 'cause my email login/PW still work, so I don't know what's going on, only that I certainly haven't changed anything on this end.

I have been shuffling between the computers upstairs and the guitar/keyboard downstairs, and the last time that I came up, my #1 machine was dead. Dead. And I can't access anything on the disks, including yesterday's entry. Or email either, it's the only machine that I have set up to get email right now, multiple machines with multiple emails is pretty unmanageable, I've found.

Anyway, I need to get a new power supply for thunder, and I've got another machine that went down a coupla months ago that probably has the same problem, so I'll get two as long as I'm going out.

23:14...
Well, wouldn't ya know it, both of the bad power supplies were made by the same company, Star King CE, and the serial numbers are less than 100 apart.

And the guy from Best Buy lied to me on the phone, he told me that they were $39, and they were $49. He said that he was looking at them as we were talking. No, he didn't identify himself, and he's probably laughing his ass off at my expense. And yeah, I bought them anyway, and yeah, they both worked.

Karen and I went out to have dinner with Duane Luthi, my old high school chum, and his wife Bonnie. Excellent supper, then we played cards for several hours. I haven't played pitch for years and years, but I got right back into it. Karen had never played and it took her a little longer but she's got the hang of it now.

On the way out we saw a horrible wreck on north 75 at 62nd street, someone had pulled out and gotten T-boned in a white minivan, and it didn't look like anyone could have survived in that vehicle. The other vehicle was surrounded by firemen looking like they were working really hard to get someone out. We had to make a detour, and the traffic was backed up about 15 minutes or so. There have been many killed on that highway in the last 40 years, probably a third of the fatalities in Shawnee county occur there.

My FTP problem is finally solved, seems that something really got screwed up on my account, and they had to re-set the password. I uploaded yesterday's entry through the liquid web file handler, which is a pain in the butt.

But it works in a pinch. I had forgotten about it last night, but I remembered it this morning.

I left my camera and phone out at Duane's, and I was wanting to take some pictures and forgot to. So I need to drive out there tomorrow and get the camera and maybe get some pictures while I'm at it.

But that means that I need to get out there early, 'cause they're leaving at noon or so. Maybe I'll wait until Tuesday or Wednesday, since I'm on call Monday night.

And I'll be batching again the first part of the week, Karen is going to Wichita on Monday to help Debbie move Betty to a different Altzheimer's unit, one just a few blocks from Debbie & Ric's house, that'll be much more convenient for Deb and she'll be able to spend more time with Betty and not spend 45 minutes driving each way.

And I do enjoy my alone time, heh. But all in all, I'd still rather spend all of my time with Karen.

Thanx for being here!
