Most often, these daily entries could be considered natterings, and that well befits what usually goes on here. Yes, there are occasionally notions, and frequent notes. And I'm getting a little uneasy here lately. Why? Because more people are coming here reading. I'm minded of the great mind who uttered "I'm not worthy!" and flagellates himself publicly. Was that Beavis and Butthead? I'm not too up on my current events or societal influences, heh. Wait, no, that was them that did the "Heh, heh" thing. O'well. It was somebody else, then. Today's entry will start off with some words written while I was in my truck, awaiting help. Talk about fortuitous! Karen signed us up for AAA yesterday, and today I got off work a half hour early so that Karen could go to Brians' football game...
So I started the truck up and called her and told her that I was on my way... Put the truck in gear and took off... And realized that I had a flat tire. Bummer, majorly. I waited for about 15 minutes, and the AAA guy showed up. Nice guy. Looked at the tire, and remarked that it was flat. Took off the hubcap and aired it up after turning on his compressor. Remarked that there was just about as much air going out as what was going in. And then his actions made me realize that I was in the presence of greatness... he took out a roll of... duct tape. Or duck tape, I don't care. At this point, I asked him if he had any baling wire, and he looked concerned. "Should I have?" And I knew that his wasn't my Uncle Earle resurrected. Uncle earle would have had bailing wire. It was the valve stem that was the problem... and the duct tape was to get me to a filling station so that I could get it repaired. The baling wire would have come in handy at this juncture, to hold the valve at an angle where it didn't leak quite so much, but it would have been overkill. So I got the four blocks necessary to get the tire fixed, and there were no other leaks, so I got by with spending $12. Not too bad. I didn't attempt to change the tire myself because 1) I didn't have a jack and 2) I was sure that the spare was flat. And it was. And impossible to dislodge from its' parking place without the jack handle. Which was in the trash with the unworkable jack. so... we missed the game, which was won 44-7. And I wasted 30 minutes of pay on a flat tire. And the furniture was delivered, and it's beautiful... I just wish that the rest of the room was. But it will be, sometime in the near future. OK, so much for the natterings and the notes. Now for the notions. And this is entirely unresearched, just shit coming out of my head, y'know? Nobody else to blame but me. I got started thinking about this with the advent of the West Nile Virus. Y'know, that disease caused by mosquitoes biting birds that have it, then passing it on to humans and horses. And then I started thinking about yellow fever, and malaria, and human misery. Naturally, this led to thinking about DDT. Yep, that horrible stuff that makes eagles' eggs too thin to hatch, or something like that. We have a match-up of the environment here. Environment against DDT... environment wins. Environment against human endeavors in general... human endeavors win. Environment against humans... particularly poor humans... environment wins. There is an irreconcilable wrongness here. We need something like DDT to kill flies and mosquitoes that make life miserable for people. Like I said, I have done no research yet, but I think that there are a lot of people suffering from the lack of adequate control of flies and mosquitoes. Dying, in some cases, perhaps in many cases. And these people are denied their right to life... because we don't want the eagles to die out? WTF? Maybe DDT is not the answer.. but nobody gives enough of a shit about this to *find* the answer. And that is the notion. Now, most of you know that I am a registered Repiglican. Hve been since I first voted. Specifically so that I could vote against BoB Dole in primaries here in Kansas. But I have never espoused the repiglican ideals, and I have always been somewhat of a tree-hugger, without having actually hugged any trees, y'know. But... I have to agree that the environmentalists have gone too far, and that they did it in the 60s, when they could. Of course, the bushies and their sycophants are taking it entirely too far the other way, of course, with the potential gutting of the clean air act. There needs to be moderation... and I'm not hearing that from anywhere. So... you heard it first here. Bring back DDT. And save some lives. Or not. And save some eagles. I love autumn... and I need to get the hot tub fixed. And I need to get up at 05:30 in the morning... Karen shut the alarm off this morning, thinking that I had made a mistake(!) and set the alarm wrong... so I didn't get up until 06:15, way too late to eat breakfast. Or take a shower, for that matter. I did get to talk to my old dear Mother for a while tonight, though... and brother Jon is in the path of the hurricane, I hope that he made it inland. O'yeah, JD will be happy that I finally made hotel reservations for The JournalCon in Austin!
