Firstly, ***Happy Birthday, JD!!!***
Secondly, last night:
Karen and I drug Kim along with us, first to the North Star, then to Stingers, where Jody Scott was playing with a band, the Musicmakers.
The Musicmakers consist of a husband-and-wife team, Ed and Connie, who both sing and play guitars, Ed on bass and Connie doing the rhythm, and another guy on drums, I can't remember his name..
Kim was getting pretty bored, but not Karen and I. After a while one on Kim's friends that works where she does, Tom, showed up. She had kinda invited him along, but it wasn't a date... no, I don't understand it....
Anyways, I was asked to sing/play with the band, and, ashamedly, I deferred the offer to a later date. However, I am inspired. I will move We stayed until the last set, and Karen drove home, since I'd had a few beers. About five, that's 1.25 an hour. So I was probably quite Got to sleep about 02:30, and I set the alarm for 08:30, but that didn't happen... I was wanting to get on the road by 09:30, and we left at 10:20, and got to Yates Center about noon. We decided to stop in Woody's cafe to eat, a place that I have patronized for years and years, whenever I had the opportunity.
And over the years I have had many opportunities... the first wife was from Erie, so I had to go through The last time that we stopped was before and after Karen's reunion the first of July.
So, we had a good meal, and I called JD and he said that they were very busy taking pictures and we should be at the church at 13:00 or after.
We got there about 13:00 and hung It didn't come tumbling down....
The ceremony was nice and brief, just the way a wedding should be.
And I did get lots of pictures. See here. Most of the pics will be up for a while, but not forever, and they come as small, medium and large. That is, if I can get this funky software to work....
All of the pictures, with the exception of the dance ones, were taken with available light. We went downstairs and had cake and punch and then talked with JD for a while and then headed out for Emporia, where the reception We got to the hotel, and there was a mixup in the rooms, but we got that all straightened out. Quinkidinkally, the last time that I stayed at this particular motel was in 1976, when JD was a mere baby, and I blew a water pump But then, back in those days, I always carried my tool box with me. Ready for any damned thing, I was. Now I just carry my bank card, heh.
So we're just sitting her at the motel, waiting for the boy to show up... actually, Karen is napping right now, she fought it and fought it, but finally lost. She'll wake up OK though.
Well, JD's birthday is over, and so is the reception, and we had a blast. Colin married a really neat girl, and the whole thing was coordinated beautifully. Man, I hate this keyboard... I just typed beautifukkly.
JD and Mike and I have just concluded a two-hour political/social/religious conversation... Mike is the groom's brother, and he lives in Lawrence. He's very active in Indian affairs, and much of the conversation was about that. More on this subject later....
And in the meantime, I'm going to sleep... a few beers and a coupla glasses of wine have pretty much done me in. Karen left the reception early and went to bed, and I begged some Ibuprofen from JD for her... she had more wine than she's used to, and taking pills before she wakes up helps her avoid a headache....
the guitar/amp back down to the basement, and I will start spending some time with it. And I also want to do some more song writing, changing my Dylanesque style for something more succinct. And maybe even salable.
sober enough to drive, but why take any chances?
Yates Center for about eight years on that account, and then when I was driving chemicals all over Kansas, that was another five years. And then when Karen and I got together, we would visit her folks often in Parsons, and Yates Center
was still on the route.
around a while... as my readers might suspect, I'm not really comfortable in churches, but this was OK, of course.
was being held. It took about 45 minutes to get there, and I had to fill the car up on the way... $1.66/gal for gas. That is terrible, more of the gouging that the energy companies are known for... but after all, their man is running the country. Yeah, you voted for him, I didn't. Well, maybe not you
personally, or you probably wouldn't be reading this journal, since I routinely say disparaging things about BabyBush....
coming home from seeing my mom in Enid. It was hot, hot, hot, and I had to walk about three miles to get the pump, and three miles back, and then put the SOB in. It worked, though, I'm lucky that I had my tool box with me.
