Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do repeat my entries about every four years, heh. It was a hot summer's day, and Luke was in the marina, having a few beers aboard his boat, patriotically named the "Fourth of July." He was waiting for his friend, Opie, to arrive so they could go for a cruise. Opie was late, unfortunately, because he had to pick up his wife from her appointment with the obstetrician. Her examinations were cheap because the doctor, a fellow named Juan, was Opie's cousin. Anyway, the appointment went overtime, and Opie was late getting to the marina. Luke had been drinking all this time, and was feeling no pain. When he saw Opie finally walking down the pier, he jumped up, staggered to the side of the boat to wave to his friend, and nearly
fell in! Opie got there just in time to grab Luke. Thus, it was that O. B. Juan's kin, Opie, saved Luke from falling to the dock side of the Fourth. That's from http://www.jokeaday.com. Nope, the jokes aren't usually that good.... but I read 'em every day, and I never, never click on any of the damned ads. Another pretty crummy sleeping night, and then I was awakened at 04:00 by the sound of... thunder. Lotsa thunder and lightning, too. I wasn't curious enough to see if the wind was blowing, I just wanted to sleep, dammit. I did get up and go to the bathroom, and looked out the window for a minute, watching the lightning. And I'd left the windows open in the truck so I went in to work with a wet ass. I watched the radar after I got to work, the thunderstorm developed right over Topeka... the internet is a wonderful thing. O'wait, you already knew that. I'm really finding it hard to be philosophical lately, or even logical on most days. I like me better when I'm logical and philosophical, dammit, I wonder where that went to.... Karen and I went to the Y tonight, and I had a good workout, sweated After the Y, we came home and showered and went to eat that the chinese buffet... excellent, as usual, and as we were leaving, Karen said, "Let's go over and drive by the Oakland house!" so I turned right instead of left. Well, about six blocks down, we were forced into a single lane... they were running a driver's license check, and we got caught. Fortunately, I had my license with me, as I always do. The cop told me that this was a DL check, and I said yeah, that's what the signs said... he said, you'd be surprised at how many people don't read that sign... What happens, of course, is that people *pretend* to be surprised, thinking that the cops will feel sorry for them 'cause they're idiots. So, we did OK there. We proceeded down to Branner trafficway and headed north... and traffic stopped on the branner street bridge. Mexican Fiesta. Massive traffic jam. Damndamndamn. Karen and her bright ideas, heh. So we finally drove by the rental house, and the roof (which we just had replaced) looks good... but nothing else does, it looks pretty rundown. I bought that house shortly after I got divorced, and I really loved it. Since then it's been rented, and it'll be paid off before I retire, but it'll probably be worthless by that time. Maybe not... But I'm really glad that we have a rental agency handling it for us, it used to be such a hassle keeping it rented, fixing it up after each renter left, spending months without having it rented... and then trying to find a better renter for the next time. Tomorrow is Friday, and I'm looking forward to that! This has been a nasty week at work, what with the 12:30-21:00 guy gone, and next week one of the other FT day techs will be gone... then the week after, the other one will be gone... I need a turn, dammit! I had a really lengthy conversation yesterday (or the day before) with a temp tech agent, it was kinda discouraging, she told me that the demand for temp techs has really dropped off... did I say this before? Because of the economy. I told her that I didn't vote for the sonovabitch, and she said that she didn't either.... Anyway, she quoted a rate that was significantly lower than the other places that I've talked to, and I asked her about it. She said that one reason was the full boat health insurance. I mentioned that I have insurance for life, and she said that they couldn't bump me up because of that. So I told her what company X had given me for a rate, and she said, but did they give you a solid job offer at that rate? She had me there.... Smoke and mirrors. Kinda like politics, heh. Today's picture is of the last moonflower and JD and Lisa planted years ago... Lisa is getting married in September, I think it is.... Incidentally, if anyone wants larger pictures, I have the 5-MP originals that I can mail to you....
lots, and I couldn't hardly get through some of the stations that I had no trouble with last week... I wonder what that means? I seem to be getting weaker.
