A horribly busy day at work, we're still short a tech, of course... The one bright spot... I got a coupla computers for the grandkids... Patrick is 13 (shudder) on Wednesday so I thought that since I'm the computer grandpa that a nice cheap solid machine would be appropriate. And since they were cheap, I got one for Lacee, too. UPS tried delivering them last Thursday and then again last Friday, but nobody was at home... so I called them and told them to hold them at the station and that Karen would pick them up today. Well, she went down there, and they were closed the first time (they close from noon until 15:00? WTF?) and the couldn't find the shipment the second time. Well, the guy that I talked to on Friday dropped the ball, they went out on the truck again today. So I went down at 18:30 when the truck got unloaded and picked them up. They had both been shipped in one box, and that sonovabitch was heavy... I unpacked the box and put everything in the trunk of the car... it was *way* too hot to be driving the truck (no AC) today... 112°F heat index. Right nasty. So I got them home and booted them up and put a popular OS on them and everything worked just fine... hard to believe, but true. Dell, they are, Optiplex. Seem to be solid machines, come with 128MB and a 15GB drive... all the kids should need. For a while, anyway. No modems, but they have NIC ports. I might have to wire their house with CAT5 cable... or talk Kim into spending some money on wireless. Anyway, the day wore me out, and Karen, bless her heart, is already in bed... she spent the day helping Lacee "re-do" her room. And the AC over there is not very good, and Karen hates to sweat.
