Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

It's really late, and I'm really tard.

Day-um, this havin' fun is more work than work sometimes!

We got up about 08:30 and ate breakfast and headed out to OK city to see the memorial and the museum. I asked Karen to call her friend Jennie in Yukon, we haven't seen her and her husband Bob for a long time... Jennie used to work with karen back in the old days, and we'd been to their wedding before Jennie moved down to Yukon after they got married. Well, there was no answer, so we kinda gave up on that idea.

But pretty soon Karen's phone rang... Jennie had checked the caller ID and not recognized the number, so she called.

We were on highway 81 going south when I was trying to get directions and I'm not very good at driving while I'm talking, so I pulled over to the side of the road... sounded like it would be pretty easy, and we always had her number in case we got lost.

Didn't get lost, though, drove right up to their house.

So we spent about an hour visiting, then Jennie took us downtown and became our outside tour guide to the memorial.

And I have to say that I was impressed.

And so was my head, because I didn't even think about wearing a hat... so I've got this cherry-red head. And yes, it does really hurt like hell, thank you very much.

Jennie had to leave, and besides, she'd seen the museum numerous times already. We made plans to return to their place in Yukon later... Jennie had a class to teach, and Bob would get home around 18:00 or so.

And the museum... well, it was fantastic. I was expecting to be a little bit impressed, but I was greatly impressed. It was well-conceived and executed.

I took a few pictures outside... they didn't allow pictures inside, of course... but they don't compare with the ones that are commercially available. I did get a coupla good ones of Karen and Jennie, and I had Jennie take one of Karen and me that I really like.

Anyways, after we were done at the museum, we followed Jennie's directions and got back on I-40 going west and then remembered that we were very, very hungry. We turned off on a side road that looked promising, and we saw a Kettle down the road... but the building was empty, the kettle was empty! So we traveled on, and came to a chinese restaurant, and we both agreed upon it, and luckily it was a buffet, and a very good one, at that. After we ate, I loaded the pictures from the camera onto the HD of the laptop, and I was kinda disappointed in them.

This camera does have limitations... a 5 MB picture takes up a lot of room, even with JPEG compression. I just have (right now) the 32 MB stick that came with the camera, but I do have two 128s coming, that'll make it more practical... I can get 12 shots at max on the 32, so I should be able to get 48 on a 128 stick.

So we finally got back to Yukon and talked to Bob for a while, he's been taking blues guitar lessons for a while, and I got him to show me some licks. Then after Jennie got back, Bob and I spent some time admiring his built-up jeep, he's put a lot of work into it and it's a right pretty machine and will go anywhere that a tank can go, I'll bet.

And we left about dark, it was a beautiful day and evening, weather-wise. Long drive back, though. We called Mom and let her know that we were going to be late, and she wasn't worried about us at all... I'd told her that we would be back in the early evening, but she knew that we had a cell phone and would call if we got into trouble.

Thanx for being here!
