Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

Yep, my trim needs painting. And no, I don't know why I chose this to take a picture of when there are all sorts of beautiful things around. It must be the artist in me. Or maybe it's the *lack* of artist in me?

So, some of you visited my nonexistent photog site yesterday, I see. And found nothing there. Well, I really felt guilty, putting out a link when I hadn't even done the work yet... kinda like announcing that I was gonna write the great American Novel before I'd even bought a typewriter, heh.

So, there are now a few things there. It's very rudimentary right now, just some pictures thrown up. I *will* be developing the artistic nature of the thing, and perhaps I will enlist the help of the only certified artist that I am known to have fathered, namely, JD. Yep, time to start paying for that "free" web space, son! Uhhhhmmm, please.

Today was OK at work, not too many interesting things happened and thankfully, none of them happened to me. And I left on time, which was nice, there was nothing going on for a change and I cut out before something could happen. Thursday at quitting time ICU pulled in with a stat patient and I spent an extra 45 minutes there. On the clock, yer damned straight! Gone are the days when I would clock out and stay over. Yeah, it happened, and it happened frequently. Yeah, I was a fool.

And now, the big news of the day... I'm going to get to see my Mother on Mother's Day! And maybe even Karen's mother too! Well, we'll see Betty either coming or going, we don't know which yet, Karen's talking to her sister Debbie right now, scheming.

I realized that I had almost two weeks of vacation built up, so I finagled Monday and Tuesday off too... so we'll get to spend an extra day with Mom. Or, at least, an extra day in Oklahoma... I've been promising Karen that I'd take her to the memorial in OKC for years and years, and now is the time. Well, Sunday or Monday is the time, actually, and I'm hoping that Mom feels like coming with us... she didn't sound very enthusiastic over the phone.

So anyhoo, we'll be gone for several days and I probably won't be posting but I will, of course, be writing daily. And taking pictures. Have I mentioned that I love my camera? Yep, love it, love it, love it! And it is just so damned cool-looking, and it feels like an extension of my eyeball. And that's a *good* thing. And excellent detail, and easy macrophotography, and... and... well, just everything about it. And it looks so cool!

Well, OK, you got the idea, heh.

And speaking of cool, all of the cool journallers with cameras take pictures of their feet, and so, by golly, can I!

And no, I'm really not under the illusion that this act alone makes me cool. There are many things that count towards coolness, and this is but one little step for me.

But yes, it is a step, heh.

The weather seems to be staying to the south and east tonight, and it looked like a pretty good-sized storm hit around Enid. We need for the moisture to move into the Topeka area, we're still damned dry here. About a hundred miles would do it....

So, we're gonna sleep in tomorrow, or at least I am, Karen gets to sleep in whenever she wants. I'm not ready for that yet, me.

Oooo, but I have a computer story to tell! About a year ago, maybe more, I bought this Belkin KVM box and hooked it up. Really neat, I can run four computers off of the same screen and keyboard and mouse. Only problem is you have to hit the button and cycle through the computers in order... you have to hit the button three times to go from #2 to #1. A pain, it was.

Well, the other night I was getting frustrated with one of the machines and, as we are all wont to do occasionally, I just started mashing on the keyboard. Yeah, you've all done it, don't give me your O-so-fu*&^$%g-innocent looks.

And the keyboard beeped and changed from the #3 machine to the #1 machine!

So, bullheaded lout that I am, I tried to duplicate this mighty feat. Yep, I spent fifteen minutes mashing on the keyboard. Not only could I not get it to change, I couldn't get it to even beep. I finally gave up.

Went to belkin.com and looked up the shortcuts. Hit the scroll lock key twice rapidly, then one of the number keys on the keyboard, not on the keypad.

No, this was not in the directions that I got with the box. The box came bare. And I never thought to look for a simple way of switching.

Some days I think that I'm pretty damned smart, and other days I realize the truth.

O'yeah, this is my ex-wife's birthday... happy birthday, Marta!
