It was a long, fun day. There were indications that this would not be so, but we persevered, determined to have fun no matter what.
Got up pretty early, 08:00 or so, after a really good night's sleep. Karen got up about 09:00, and we started discussing the day. We decided to go to KC and just get away from everything... sorry, Mom, you were second choice this time... you're too far away!
Karen came out of the shower and told me that something was wrong in the bathroom, and that I should go look. Not words that I wanted to hear, obviously.
Turned out to be a minor emergency, and the temporary solution was to turn the water off to the stool. That was a challenge, though, since that valve hadn't been touched for... fifteen years? Probably at least that.
The seal is bad between the tank and the seat, a three-dollar part and about a half-hour... for a plumber. Yeah, it'll take me at least two hours, heh. And it can be done tomorrow.
So off we go, stopping in Lawrence to eat at Jason's deli, we both had a big salad. Jason's is a good place, there's one in Wichita that we've been to a number of times with Debbie when we're visiting Betty.
Then it was onward!
We got to KC at probably 14:30 or so, so we went to CompUSA to check out the price on their Sony camera... dammit, same as Best Buy, $799. I've seen it online for $650 or so. I will continue waiting, it's worth waiting for. Well, yeah, I've been waiting a coupla years already... I'm patient. The pictures that I want to take will still be there down the road.
So we drove around some more and then went to the motel and checked in. karen wanted to go downtown, or rather, to the plaza, and she wanted to eat at Minsky's.
And she was driving, and we got lost on the way, seeing some scenery that I'd never seen before... and Karen took me by the places that she'd lived when she lived here, three of them anyway. The neighborhoods are pretty much run down now, and mostly populated by blacks, from what we saw. There were a few houses on every block that had been either kept up or restored, though.
We had a pizza at Minsky's and by that time it was dark. We then proceeded to the plaza and found a parking place and walked around for quite a while... it was a beautiful day, and I was with a beautiful woman, and it was just all really good.
Well, my legs didn't do really good, but what the hell, there were places to sit occasionally. We had parked on a steep hill, and getting up that hill, which was probably about 20°, was gruelling, though, and I was really glad to get back to the car.
And more adventures ensued... we got slightly lost coming back to the hotel, but again, it's all good.
And I better get to sleep, so that we can take advantage of the free breakfast!
