It is appreciable cooler in Dallas tonight than it was in Houston today....
I stayed up with the boys last night until about 01:30 again, but that was about all that I could do. They reported that they stayed up until 07:00 AM, and I was glad that I'd gone to sleep when I did.
Nevertheless, I didn't awaken until about 11:00, and Karen had been up since 10:30 or so... she'd wakened earlier and found everyone else asleep, and she didn't want to disturb anyone, so she came back to bed, the sweet thing, heh.
So I finally got up, and so did Annette, and Karen had some company. JD was up for a while, but he went back to sleep after being up for fifteen minutes or so. Tyler never did wake up, and we stepped over him going out the door, he was sleeping on the floor on an air mattress.
Annette was kind enough to take us to a half-price book store in Rice VIllage, and we spent a coupla hours in there, I got several books on computers and Karen got some too... one of the books that I got was on TCPIP and another one on Photoshop 7.
After that, we went to a mexican place, and I can't remember the name of the place, but it was excellent. I had a fish dish with shrimp and it was truly wonderful. While we were at the restaurant Tyler called, he was heading back to Huntsville to get the place ready for guests... I'd told him that we wanted to stay there instead of driving all of the way from Houston tomorrow.
But the more that I thought about it, I wanted to cover So I told Tyler about the change in plans, and we planned on meeting up at his house in Huntsville later in the evening.
So we got back to the apartment and packed up... saying goodbye to JD or Tyler is still hard, even after all of the years of goodbyes.
But we did, and we were on the road about 18:00.
Traffic was light, of course, which makes it the equivalent of a KC rush hour....
We made it to Huntsville in about two hours and Tyler and Jeanette were just going out the door to get a pizza when we got there, so we waited until they got back. Jeanette seems very nice, but we didn't get much of a chance to know her, of course.
So, on to Dallas and cooler weather. We'd called ahead to get a reservation at Super8, just so Karen would be assured that I wasn't planning on driving all of the way back to Topeka tonight.
There were some real jackasses on the road, just like any other time, I guess, but tonight they got to me more than usual. One guy was driving along in the left lane doing 70MPH with the interior light on, talking on the phone and trying to read a map. Yes, true. And he wouldn't budge out of that left lane for anything. Jackass.
A little later, he blew by us doing about a hundred. About a half-hour down the road, the cops had pulled someone over, but it wasn't him, dammit. There is no, and I repeat, *NO*, justice. I knew that, of course. And we got to the motel at about the same time that I was ready to quit driving....
Today's picture was prompted by the fact that JD and Annette had a turtle, Artimus, and a conjunctional fact, a picture that I took several years ago and posted here with a toy turtle on my head (http://nilknarf.net/j/199901/19990101.htm. Enjoy... nope, the turtle neither peed nor pooped on my head. I got lucky, I did. Yeah, there is no justice, but I can get lucky once in a while, heh.
more ground than that tonight, so we decided to go on north to Dallas, and just stop in Huntsville to meet Jeanette, Tyler's girl friend.
