Eh, a long day. Bad night sleeping, and a pretty boring day at work. Boring is OK, though. Really. Occasionally, as long as it doesn't last *too* long. Some people were talking at work about a new Italian restaurant so I called Karen about 09:00 and asked her to go out with me tonight, and she said yes, so I had something to look forward to all this long boring day. That didn't make the time go any faster, though. So we went, and ate, and it was very nice... I had spaghetti with meat sauce, and Karen had a baked something with eggplant, she thought it was OK but not fantastic... she had to send it back to get it warm. So this was a classy joint, they didn't serve butter, but they had a bottle of herbed oil at the table. Well, I'm certainly not as sophisticated as I look, I am, after all, a Kansas hick, so I asked for some butter when she brought the bread. The waitress explained to me what the bottle of oil was all about with her Kansas accent... she probably just found out about that stuff when the place opened two weeks ago, heh... and she offered to bring some "regular" butter, and I demurred. Dipping sliced bread in oil, even herbed oil, is not really the taste experience that I thought it would be. It was kinda like crisco with chopped-up parsley in it... next time I'll go with the butter. So, we got home and decided to watch The Natural, and it was excellent, just excellent. I have the feeling that I will watch it again in a coupla weeks. And I got a note from NetFlix, my first two rentals are The Hustler and Lord of the Rings (not the new one). I've never seen The Hustler but I've heard about it all of my life, and it's been 20 years since I read Toelkin, so I'm looking forward to that one too. And now? I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep, I hope.
