Natterings, Notions
and
Notes

I almost started an entry early this morning... "While you were sleeping..." just like I usta do fairly frequently.

After I posted last night, I thought that I would take a shower, so I did. While I was in the shower I got called... Karen took the message and I went in after I got dried off. Heh... I don't need to worry about going out in the cold with wet hair any more!

So I did the patient and checked in with the ER before I came home... there was an MVA coming in, but little was known about what had happened, so I elected to go home. Most of the time it takes a while to do the evaluation and the subsequent x-rays before I can do CT scans.

When I got home, Karen met me on the deck with a message to turn around and go back, so I turned around and went back. I did a CT on an ED patient who had been admitted, and the order was written just minutes after I left.

But by this time the MVA had arrived... four teenagers had been involved in a fairly low-speed single-car crash, and none of them had been wearing seatbelts. I just don't understand how people with such intelligence deficits can continue to reproduce, dammit.

It was unusual that four trauma victims would come to the same hospital at the same time, and the ambulance people got in hot water about that... but come to find out, the parent of two of the victims insisted. Neither hospital is really equipped to handle that many serious victims on a routine basis, and normally each hospital would get two.

And the bottleneck is always radiology, especially since the main trauma room is still in the process of being refurbished....

Luckily, there were no major injuries, nothing life-threatening anyway, so it all worked out.

Anyways, they all had multiple x-rays and multiple CT scans ordered, so I helped do the x-rays until I could finally get started on the CT scans.

I got outta there at 03:00 and I was in bed about 03:00.

The alarm started going off at 05:30, and I slept through it... Karen woke me at 06:15, and I headed out for work and got there at 06:50.

And I left about 09:15. I just can't go for eighteen hours and then get two hours sleep and then go again for even a lousy eight-hour shift. Just can't do it, dammit.

So I went out and paid the damned house taxes and went by Walgreens and came home... and now I'm going to bed.

17:36...
And I slept and slept and slept, I did. I was finally awakened by the sounds of kids in the house.

Today was Karen's last day at work!

Kim and Patrick and Lacee had gone down to BC/BS to help her pack up, she's got the trunk full of stuff from her cubicle and stuff that people gave her on her last day.

As usual, I had not been keeping up with things, and I thought that she was gonna be working a day or two next week, but no, she will be on the clock but she won't have to actually *be* there. No, I don't understand how that works, but it's OK with me.

She is very happy today.

Very happy.

And I am so happy for her... we are starting out on a whole new lifestyle, and it is gonna be *so much fun!*

Right now, she's watching The Young and the Restless and then we're going out to eat somewhere as a celebration, she hasn't told me where we're going yet.

20:48...
Applebee's, the old standby... we both had burgers, unimaginative but good. I was really surprised at the number of people that were out tonight, until Karen pointed out that there are post-xmas sales all over, and people are off. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table, and another half-hour for our food. Of course, it was a pleasant half-hour, as is all the time that I get to spend alone with Karen....

Well, "alone" is a relative term, of course. Actually, there was so much noise in there we could hardly hear ourselves think, much less hold a conversation. So I had to spend most of the time just gazing at my lovely wife, not a bad way to spend time at all.

It's getting close to my bedtime, so I better close this up for tonight....

Thanx for being here!
