Well, I slept somewhat better last night, but still not really well. I did pretty much get up on time, though, and I made it to work on time too. I had the biopsy duty again today, and the two that we cancelled yesterday got done rather expediently. The third case, though, didn't go so well. This case was rather iffy to start with... the patient had been restrained with a posey belt, but he was cooperative when we started. Well, that didn't last long, unfortunately, and there is no way to do a biopsy on an uncooperative patient. We had a hard time just keeping him from jumping off of the bed and hurting himself, and us. He was a heavyweight, probably 350 lbs or so, and strong as on ox. After we got him properly restrained, he became cooperative again, just like nothing had happened. Such behavior is not unusual for people with brain damage, of course... his damage was not from injury, but disease. Other than that, it has been a pretty routine day... I'm on call this weekend, starting in about twenty minutes. I probably won't get called tonight, but it's a certainty for tomorrow. It amazes me that people hate atheists so much, but they don't hate people who have different religions... speaking of the kid from Oregon who is an atheist Eagle Scout. I'm not really sure why he would want to continue being a scout, but then I'm biased. I try to not associate with people who hate me. The reason that religious people hate atheists is not just that they don't just *not believe* in *their* god but that they have the audacity to not humble themselves at all. They therefore have an unappreciated pride in themselves as human beings and the unmitigated gall to claim that they have *no* beings that are superior to them. Of course, I'm sure that *all* religious people don't hate atheists... many of them love atheists and hate atheism, just as they hate sin but love sinners. But I digress. An atheist, although the word just means "without a belief in a god/gods" is really saying, in effect, "believing in god/gods is silly and I'm not gonna play that game with you". This gives the religious person no wiggle room at all, he's's just gotta hate the atheist. A Baptist might not hate a Methodist, 'cause he's humble and besides, he might be converted. Substitute any other religion for Baptist and Methodist and it still works... they have a commonality. The fact that I think that their commonality Even if he's a fine upstanding young Oregon man he gets the rocks, because he doesn't have the slavish humility demanded of him by religion. I really do hope that this young man stands by his principles and tells the Boy Scouts of America to stuff it. And then I hope that he goes on to fight for true religious liberty in this country.
is stupid is beside the point... they can get along together, they have something that they can give each other. They can reach out to each other and say, "Yes! I believe in that great fairy in the sky! You may interpret the words differently, but they are the same words! We Believe! We Believe!" And the atheist says, "That's silly!" and he gets bombarded with rocks.
