Well, I didn't sleep really late, but adequately. And when I got up Karen was fixing pecan pancakes. A week or so ago, we went out to eat and I'd ordered pecan pancakes, and I just got plain ones. I was disappointed, but I thought that I'd hid it well... but I can't hide stuff like that from Karen! A coupla weeks ago, I'd mentioned to her that a pancake-cooking device that I'd seen on TV was pretty clever, so she bought us one. And indeed it is pretty clever... not really useful, but clever. You can only cook one pancake at a time, which is OK when you're just one person, but unhandy for two or more. Anyway, after breakfast we read the paper and then watched the football game... the chiefs lost badly, as expected, and it wasn't nearly as fun of a game as last weeks' was, that one will go down in history as the freakiest game ever, I think. Then Karen went off with Kim and Lacee, and I started mowing the lawn. And mowed, and mowed, and mowed. Luckily, it was a beautiful day, the high was about 75F, bright 'n' sunny, nice little breeze. As I was hauling some limbs into the back easement, I noticed something black in amongst the weeds there... it was a purse. Soggy and pretty mildewed, I tossed it into the yard for further perusal later. Well, when I got back to it, it was full of cards and such, along with a DL for Kansas and a set of keys. I looked the name up in the phone book, and there's nobody with that name in Topeka, and when I looked closer at the DL I saw that the address was in Leavenworth. There were some notebooks with numbers and such written in them, but they were so soggy that I really couldn't read them, I've got them drying out now, maybe I can find a Topeka number somewhere in them. And indeed I did find a Topeka number. The guy that answered the phone was pretty guarded until I told him that I had found her purse, then he let me know that she was in the VA in Leavenworth. I'll get ahold of the VA here in Topeka tomorrow and let them handle it from here, I guess. So, someone probably stole this lady's purse, got the money out of it and threw it into the bushes... behind my house. I know that I really shouldn't let that bother me, probably every other person who drives by on the front side of my house is a thief, too. So, no big deal, now that I think of it. And so the weekend ends. I think that I will sleep really well tonight from the effects of physical activity, and the excellent spaghetti that Karen made for supper. I was too tired when I can in to shower, but I have to do that now, then get ready for the coming week... which should be exciting!
