So, as predicted, I really didn't get anything of note done today. Karen went over to Kim's for most of the day, after picking Brian up in Lawrence... Kim was re-arranging her house so that everyone has a bedroom. I sat in the computer room most of the way, desultorily working on cleaning the desk off, re-arranging piles of paper, looking for things that I couldn't find. I did find something that I wasn't looking for, a $20 rebate check that has to be cashed by 12 SEP '02, just found that one in time. Andy came over and I scanned a picture in for him, he's got an item that he's trying to sell on e-Bay. After we got that set up, Andy left and I started trying to catch up on my e-mail, I'm a coupla weeks behind, you know how that is... I'd finally got my Outlook archives to work, that is not an intuitive process... so now I have everything on one computer. Then I got a call from Karen's phone, only it was Kim. She said that they were headed over to St. Francis, Patrick had fallen and broken his arm. I got there just after they finished checking him in, and I got to do his x-ray and then I helped him into his assigned room. I was glad to see that Eileene was his nurse. Patrick had broken both bones and had some over-riding of the fragments... most likely the orthopod will just reduce it and put a cast on it, but if he can't, he'll have to plate it. I just talked to Kim and she said that they were going to be there all night, and they were going to plate it. He's been admitted... he's being very brave about this whole thing, when I left he'd had enough morphine to knock me over, and it was just barely controlling the pain. I let Kim know that they will set up to do an open but try to do it closed first, and that they almost never know if it's gonna work until they actually try it. OK, something totally off the subject... two TV commercials that are really, really stupid. First, the one by Shell Oil. It's kinda like they needed to spend their advertising budget... The second one is for Glade air fresheners. A good product probably, but their ad makes women look sooooo stupid, O'yeah, more exciting stuff today, I got my application from the temp people. Lotsa papers to fill out. And I'm getting scared about this whole thing, of course. You don't just walk out on 33 years of a steady paycheck without being scared... but that's OK. I think that Bill Mauldin said it best... Joe: "They say that being scared is nature's way of keeping you alert, Willie." Willie: "Then t'hell with nature!" Yeah, that's not an exact quote, but it's as close as I can get without having to go find the book, then I would have to read the whole damned thing again, like I do every time that I see it.... So, it's been a long day, and I need to shave and shower before I go to bed, 'cause they'll probably call me in at 07:00 in the morning. Today's picture is of Andy, I took it a few weeks ago whe I had the camera working for a short while....
like they can't figger out with the other product that they need to take it out of the socket before they can plug anything else in. I would think that NOW would be all over that,
