Sooooo... long day.

Last night Mom and I watched Ms Doubtfire, as I mentioned. I must admit that it was better than I had thought that it was going to be. I had seen snippets of it on TV, and I was afraid that it was going to be painfully stupid, y'know, where you just cringe 'cause you know what's going to happen next?

After that was over, Mom went up to bed, and I watched Class Action, a pretty good show starring Gene Hackman. That was over about 23:45, but before it was over the storm moved in. This one had come out of New Mexico and tracked across the Texas panhandle. I went outside and stood on the porch, watching the clouds at different heights moving at different relative speeds in different directions. The low clouds looked like they were going about a hundred miles an hour and the visible parts of the thunderhead were stationary, and there were about three other layers. The lightning would light up the tall clouds and they could be seen through breaks in the lower ones... eerie sight.

I continued to watch for about ten minutes before the front hit at the surface, a straight wind gust of probably fifty MPH. The smell was weird, and one that I hadn't smelled since my boyhood... dust and moisture mixed together. My smelling ability has improved markedly since I have stopped smoking, of course.

So I went inside and watched the rest of the movie, and it was pretty good too, Hackman is always good. Then I went to bed and was out like a light.

Until about 09:30. I had been stirring for maybe a half-hour, when I smelled something wonderful... Mom had baked some bubble bread. So I had to get up at that point.

We went over the chores that she'd wanted me to do, and I finished those up. Little things, really. But there is a major chore that I need to undertake next time I go down there... she has a light at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom that are controlled by two two-way switches. The one at the top quit working a coupla years ago, and now the one at the bottom has too. The switches are as old as the house, and I'm hoping that just by replacing them I will cure the problem, but I'm afraid that I'm being way too simplistic.

So... Karen called about 10:00, and Jeff was taking Brian to a show at the museum where Jeff has spent the summer working, and I needed to meet everyone at Karen's Moms' rest home about 16:00. I got on the road about 14:00 and made it right on time, which wound up being an hour early. I got to talk some with Betty, but she was pretty tired and I'm not really sure if she knew who I was... It was good to see KIaren, of course, I'd missed her a bunch.

Everyone finally got there a little after 17:00 and we were on the road about 17:30 and we had to take Brian back to Lawrence... we got there about 20:00, and we were finally back home at 21:00.

And I'm pretty much beat. It was a nice weekend, and it's always good to see Mom. But now comes Monday... I'm back to working 08:00 to 16:30 now for two weeks. And I'm on call from Thursday until next Tuesday morning... I'll betcha I get a bunch of overtime, heh.

O'yeah, Friday's entry is here! Then hit the "NEXT" to get to Saturday.

Thanx for being here!
