Another really crappy day at work. It started off mostly OK, though, and continued that way until about 13:30. We had a stat head CT coming down from the floor on his way to ICU, the doc was thinking that he was having a stroke or a bleed in his head. Well, normally transportation is pretty slow from the floors, so we thought that we had time to do an outpatient.... So we got her on the table and couldn't find a vein... we'd been trying for about ten minutes when the stat patient got there. I decided to move the outpatient off of the table and into the dressing room again and do the stat patient really quick (it's normally a five-minute exam) and then proceed with the outpatient. Well, as soon as we got the fellow on the table he started vomiting so we had to turn him to avoid aspiration. After a coupla minutes he stopped breathing and we called a code. And thirty seconds after the code was called, it was cancelled. We got on the phone and called it again, thoroughly confusing the people who were on their way to the code and stopped and started back. Anyway, the code turned out badly, as they seem to do mostly. This fellow was in big trouble before we ever saw him, of course, and his fate was probably sealed with his first symptoms up on the patient floor. But still. And, of course, we were by this time another hour behind on our schedule. I finally got out of there 45 minutes late... this is getting to be annoying, I'm supposed to leave at 16:30, that's happened about once in the last three weeks. Not that I really mind, after all it's OT, but still.... And of course I'm utterly exhausted by the time I get home... like, it's 20:00 and I'm ready to go to sleep right now. O'yeah, I loaded an evaluation copy of XP Pro on one of my machines, and I actually think that I like it, it's got some neat features.
