Natterings, Notions

Notes

Once again, the sleeping-in didn't work... the phone started ringing at 09:00 this morning. Lacee stayed with us overnight, so she and Karen were sleeping in the guest bedroom, so I had to get out of bed and find a phone and take it to Karen. I was slow enough in doing that that Andy had hung up, thinking that I'd gone back to sleep.

Which I almost did after I handed the phone to Karen. Only there was no one there, so she had to come ask me why I brought her the phone.

Well, I didn't recover from that, but I tried for another half-hour.

The weather. Boring. Last week, highs in the low 90s, no rain. The next seven days: highs in the low 90s, no rain.

I went out to Lowes today, looking for a saw... like I said earlier, JD and Annette gave me a nice gift card, it's burning a hole in my pocket. But damn, there were way too many choices! Different brands, different models and sizes... I thought that I knew what I wanted when I went out there, but I was way wrong... I need to save up my nickels a while longer to get what I really want. And then I need for somebody to tell me what I want, after I can afford it.

While I was at Lowes, I went to the plumbing department again, looking for some different ideas. No dice, dammit. No ideas.

Well, I hadn't been to Home Depot for a while, so I went out there... looked at the plumbing, and I got an idea! Well, it wasn't really an idea right then, it had been in the back of my mind for a while, but I hadn't really thought that it could work. However, I found a fitting that will allow me to do what I need to do much cheaper and easier... I have a threaded four-inch cleanout, and the fitting will go in there and allow me to put another stack beside the old one. Probably not code, but good enough for right now, and better that what I've done so far.

I got a call from JD this afternoon, it was good to hear from him. He's having trouble setting up his network so I talked him through some of the configuration possibilities... I haven't heard back from him yet, though.

Tonight Karen and I watched a two-hour special program on MSNBC about health care, it was pretty good. Lots and lots of neat stuff happening, and more coming up in the near future. There's a good possibility that the next time I get a fatal disease they will be able to cure it. So far their record is pretty good, none of the fatal diseases that I've had have killed me.

The death rate is still the same, though, no matter how good they get... it's one for one. Everybody gets to die.

Reminds me of one time long ago and far, far away... a conversation about how our generation might be the last one that has to die. I think that was slightly premature.

Speaking of stuff like that, I was listening to something the other day about how an asteroid just barely missed us, coming about 75K miles from a collision. A third-of-a-mile rock, about a week ago. We knew nothing about it until it was over and done with.

Scary, heh?

It is so sad to think that everything, everything, could be wiped out by a cosmic happenstance in the blink of an eye. I think that I wrote about this a coupla months ago....

Monday coming up hard here. But I have some new shirts!

Thanx for being here!
