14:13 5/22/2002...
Karen and I got up on time this morning and got around just fine, Karen had the coffee made when I got up, but just barely.

We were supposed to meet Karen's sister Debbie at a restaurant in Wichita at noon, so we had to be out of the house and on the road by 10:00, and we were just barely. Both of us had several calls to make, and we noticed in the meantime that the old Subaru was gone, they'd come to get it and were gone without us even seeing them...

It was really windy coming down on the turnpike, we were bucking a 45-50MPH headwind. Karen was driving and she does pretty good. Our gas mileage was probably greatly reduced, however, not that that really matters all that much... probably cost us an extra fifty cent's worth of gas.

We made it to the restaurant right on time, it's Yia Yia's, which supposedly means "grandmother" in Spanish. It's definitely an upscale place, a cut or two above Applebees, at least according to their prices.

We were sitting so that we could see the door, but about a hundred feet away, and every girl who came in looked like Debbie to one or the other of us. I finally spotted her, but Karen thought that it wasn't her up until the time she got to the table...

We spent quite a bit of time sitting there jawing, but then Deb had stuff to do and Karen wanted to go see Betty, and that's where we are right now.

Betty was really having a pretty good day, most of what she was talking about made perfect sense, with a few exceptions. She was not really convinced that her husband Charles was dead, for one thing, and a few small other things. Debbie says that she gets worse towards the end of the day, I guess that's fairly common with Altzheimers' patients.

Karen wanted to go to Sams here in Wichita (well, I did too) so we left the rest home about 16:00... there is a Sams not too far from Debbies'. They have a lot more stuff than the one in Topeka. Anyway, we bought a phone (Karen has hated the last phone that we bought two years ago) and some Microwave Kettle Korn to take down to Mom to see if she likes it. I bought a pair of shorts to wear this summer, Karen hates the cut-offs that I make, for some reason or another.

20:38...
Ric grilled salmon for supper, even though neither Debbie nor Jeff like fish of any kind... Ric and Karen and I really did enjoy it. After supper, Karen and I listened to Jeff practice on his clarinet for quite a while... this kid is good. And he loves it, Debbie has to ask him stop practicing every night, she says.

And we had strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was excellent, of course. All of the ingredients are excellent by themselves, how could the combination be anything *but* excellent?

The knee has been doing pretty well today, I've had to take the Tylenol twice when it really started hurting and that took care of that. I'll leave it wrapped tonight but I won't ice it unless it wakes me up in the middle of the night.

Today's picture is GARFIELD, the fattest cat in Wichita....

Thanx for being here!
